That's the one thing about getting a job -- they always seem to make you work!

Finding a fit
I know some folks who worked as TAs who said that this is a pretty good description of some faculty positions...

Not THAT kind of help!
One of my sons just got a job doing custodial work at 4 a.m. in the library at BYU. The first thing he said was, "It's not that bad -- there aren't any bathrooms!"

Monday skechbook: Paging Dr. Cullen!
Is it just me, or is the promotion machine for New Moon omnipresent?Update 9/22: This new gadget, "you might also like this," shows me that I ran this same sketch back in March! Sorry! I guess Twilight is everywhere indeed!
Here, then, is another sketch which is just as timely...and it hasn't already been posted!

Sorry, Bro. Adams
Yep, our missionary just got transferred. My apprentice, Ben, suggested we include the Pointy-haired Boss as mission president and Alice as a sister missionary. Sounds a little too scary to even go there!

Monday sketchbook: School supplies
With all the talk of H1N1 (Swine Flu) and the start of school, I expected that the folks at Wal Mart would have thought of this...

Let your light shine, except on Monday nights
If you've ever been around an LDS chapel for any length of time, you know that there's always something going on...from seminary classes in the early morning to meetings and activities almost every night -- except for Monday nights, which are reserved for Family Home Evening. To quote from the Church Web site: Church leaders have instructed members to set aside Monday night as "family home evening." This is a time for families to study the gospel together and to do other activities that strengthen the family spiritually, create family memories, and increase unity and love.

But it's for history class
It was a major temptation. Heck, we had a hard time keeping the old guys out of the construction zone!

Vanished into thick dirt
There was a little bit of concern because we were working in front of Provo High School at the start of school. We worked with school officials to make sure that nothing bad happened. Outside of losing a chunk of the freshman class, all went well.

Monday sketchbook: It is the Dairy State...
I should probably erase the "4" on the guy's jersey now that he's gone over to the dark side with the Vikings.

It's all about the culture
One of the best jobs I ever had was working for the English Language Center at BYU as a graphic artist/cartoonist. I had an office in the Amanda Knight Hall, just down the street from Brick Oven. It was sweet -- my own place (almost) on campus, right next to my favorite pizza place, drawing cartoons AND getting paid for it!This is one from a workbook about American culture. I chose to run it today for two reasons: No. 1, it's the start of school, so it seems appropriate, and No. 2, it's also my son's birthday -- the one who just got married last spring. He and his bride are getting used to each others' culture.

What's new?
It was always interesting to see what had changed in town over the summer. And yes, even in Provo some things changed!
