Monday sketchbook: Be prepared
I like the idea behind this one -- what parent hasn't packed up the entire house to go someplace? Any my wife, bless her heart, has always been notorious for having everything in her purse, even when she was single. After all, somebody has to keep the Primary kids entertained. In the end, though, this idea just had too many words. And now with iPods and smart phones, almost all that stuff can be loaded into a single pocket. Except for the diapers and the Cheerios. I don't think there's an app for that. Yet.

I looked out the window...
There's a song that's a favorite in Mormondon, "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree." It's all about the blossoms, as you can probably figure, looking like popcorn. Don't try it.

Wait! There's more!
I thought this one was kind of cute, but I couldn't quite figure out who the target market would be...?

Spring clearance sale!
I found a stack of card designs I made some years back. I had a friend who owned a store and wanted to sell greeting cards, so I drew up a few ideas for him. The store folded, and these drawings stayed in a box until I discovered them while cleaning out the garage.

Monday sketchbook: It's delivery!
It was garbage day in our neighborhood when I took my young apprentice to school the other day. We saw a crow sitting on the lip of a garbage can, doing his best to lift the lid. My padawan said, "Dad, we should be able to make a cartoon out of that!" So here it is.

I heart it!
We made a few of these shirts, but marketing was a bit of a problem. Oregon just ain't the same as Utah!

More signs of spring
Because the project on US 189 in Provo (University Avenue) blocked access to the main entrances to businesses, we built a bunch of these signs to direct traffic to back doors and alleyways. It was kind of fun to see my character on all those signs scattered throughout downtown!

Yet another sign of spring
There's a whole breed of folks for whom this is true -- the surest sign of spring is orange cones and concrete. I work with many of them!

Wagon envy
This sort of reminds me of another wagon cartoon I did a long time ago.

Pi day!

A word of explanation: I live with a few math geeks, and they're all excited that today is 3/14, or 3.14, an approximation of pi. That explains the pi part, and why I had to have a pie cartoon today.
Now, about the artwork. OK, so this doesn't look like my normal cartoons. I started to draw the pie, and I thought to myself, "that looks like the kind of pie Arie Van De Graaff might draw (he's one of my electronic cartooning buddies). Well, one thing led to another, and before I knew it...well, here it is. Sorry, Arie!

She said with a smile
The French have something I think is called "mots d'escalier," or the words you think of on the stairs -- those "I wish I woulda said..." moments. This came from one of those incidents

Tneper
There are folks who swear that the backward messages are true, and there are those who swear otherwise. Personally, I could never get my turntable to go in reverse! Yeah, I know, what's a turntable?

Monday sketchbook: Just desserts
I've gone back and forth on this one, whether to make it a full cartoon. I think it would be a good one, but I like the simplicity of the sketch. Plus the moose could be kinda gross!

Many parts are inedible
One of my first days in the mission field I was assigned to make pancakes for breakfast. Unfortunately, my language skills were limited. I couldn't tell which was the powdered vanilla and which was the corn starch.I chose poorly!

Truth in advertising
I heard a news item a few days ago that MTV was dropping the "music" part of its name, since it really isn't all about the music any more. Well, that bit of news reminded me of a series of cartoons that I did back in the day when they played -- get this -- music videos on MTV! There was, of course, some outrage about the videos at the time. And isn't that what rock 'n' roll is all about?

Sweat it out
The chemistry teacher came into my wife's classroom and said he saw some emo kids in the hallway trying to decide whether they should go to their gym class. He said, "I can just see the emos in an aerobics class -- that's it! Emorobics!" This one's for you, John!

Monday sketchbook: One day on the bridge...
I know Klingon jokes have been done to death (which is one reason this stayed in the sketchbook), but I thought this was a cute variation.
