It's good for the soul

Oftentimes members (or investigators) try to honor missionaries by feeding them special foods -- many of them delicacies in the local cuisine. For example, we like to feed the missionaries grilled Pacific Northwest salmon.

I would guess that most missionaries have at least one story of special or surprising foods. I know I had my fair share of exotic dishes that I didn't recognize (and perhaps it was better that I didn't). My favorite story, however, is of the green sister missionary in France who was served duck embryo soup. Luckily her companion was able to help her with the duck embryo part and she lived to tell the tale.

Kinda makes whole chicken soup pale in comparison!

  1. I'm going to send a copy of this to my missionary son. He is in Seoul Korea right now and this cartoon reminded me of something he wrote to us the first month out, "Oh, and I think I’ve eaten dog. I’m not sure but my companion loves to tell me what I eat. This one time we were at a member’s house and he tried to tell me what I was eating. I didn't understand what he said, but he made barking noises after that. So Who knows? I did not want to find out. "

  2. Having served in Korea myself, I have several food stories involving lots of creatures -- some that I still shudder to remember!
