Monday sketchbook: Midichlorians galore!

This is a result of a carpool collaboration. As I took the boys to school, the discussion turned to Justin Bieber to Michael Jackson and from there to Star Wars. I think it works rather nicely, don't you?

The envelope, please

One time we had a mission conference, and as part of the conference they gave all the missionaries special awards. In recognition of the Academy Awards, I dug out this cartoon. I like the elder on the left who really hopes he'll win!

I was never dumb enough to try that line from the scriptures, because I was pretty certain that something like this would happen to me!

Mystery from the sky

The forecast calls for snow, a "major snow event" in fact. It probably won't materialize. But it got me thinking, what would happen if aliens showed up when we were all distracted by something else?

Grab a shovel

I kind of feel sorry for Noah. He had an immensely difficult task and he was mocked by the people in his day while he fulfilled his duty. Even today he's the subject of jokes, gags and cartoons. I really hope he has a sense of humor!

Monday sketchbook: Being followed

I think this is kind of a cute gag, but if you look at it from a certain perspective, it could be a little uncomfortable. Missionaries aren't in the habit of following kids home, see... Anyway, I may overcome my phobias and make it a full-fledged cartoon. We'll see, we'll see.

What has he got in his pocketses?

Does it ever happen to you that you come home from church and realize you forgot to turn in your tithing envelope? I hate when that happens!

Many gifts are given

I think every Mormon cartoonist has done a variation on this theme, some more successful than others. Personally, I like the "guess who won?" line.

Monday sketchbook: Misfire!

There are many theories about why Cookie Monster became a fan of veggies and cut back on cookies. My young padawan espouses this theory -- it's all Cupid's fault!

Turning the hearts

This was a middle of the night thought that I still liked in the morning.

And why are they not chosen?

In one of our missionary apartments we had a big poster collage of the wedding announcements that the elders in the district received. We didn't throw darts at it, but whoever added to it had to buy ice cream for the district that day.

Eyes on the prize

From time to time, well meaning girlfriends show support to their missionary boyfriends in less effective ways.

Monday sketchbook: The dark side

In my opinion, the Darth Vader/Passat commercial was the clear winner of the Super Bowl ads.

Primary colors

My favorite piece of Primary art was done by Mary, a sweet little nine-year-old girl in one of our classes. After a lesson on Nephi building the boat, we had the kids draw their own boats. Mary drew a magnificent ship with full sails, cannon and a pirate flag! I figured she must've captured that time when Laman and Lemuel mutinied. It was an awesome lesson!

There is joy in every sound

Singing a hymn when you're upset can be beneficial. It can help change your mood and it can sound as a warning to others!
