Seltzer scholar

At least they found somebody who would say yes to accepting a calling!

And, yes, this is partly in response to last week's cartoon!

Burning man

One of my son's missionary companions almost had this happen. Some elders in his mission would burn their suits!

One more memory to share

This one somehow didn't make it in with the rest of the Europe trip cartoons.

I was amazed at how quickly the kids were able to get stuff posted on social media — even in places without WiFi. It was also amazing to see how many historic and significant sites you could almost see in the backgrounds of the selfies!

Rising up to the challenge

I think I worked harder as a missionary than I ever did in any sport in high school (even if you include marching band!).

Acknowledgement for this gag goes to my young padawan, who just finished his first ever week of daily doubles.

Monday Sketchbook: Shine on!

I love how Pres. Hinckley always said to be happy, things will work out.

That's one of the reasons I draw these cartoons. They probably won't make a huge difference in anyone's life, but each one might — for just a moment — lighten someone's load, or give an individual a slight grin (or groan) on a dreary day...if only for a moment.

Thanks for stopping by!

If one a day keeps trouble away...

A girl from our ward served a week-long mini-mission with the sister missionaries. She was shocked at how much they prayed. She said, "We must have prayed thirty times on my first day out — and I didn't get there until thee o'clock!"

Look both ways!

OK, it's not a gag — it's a public service announcement. Every year at the end of summer, we discuss back to school safety messages. This one started out as a sketch in my meeting notes, and I kind of liked how it looked.

Let's be careful out there!

Taking one for the team

My son and his high school football team just took the ALS ice bucket challenge. After watching some of the celebrity videos, I wondered what it would be like if some historical figures participated!

What lurks beneath...

I don't know how it is with you, but even though we clear out backpacks at the end of the year, we still find interesting things in the bottom of the bags when it's time for back to school!

Monday Sketchbook: What's in a name?

According to the Bible Dictionary, Ecclesiastes is a Greek translation of the Hebrew word "Koheleth," meaning one who convenes an assembly.

The more you know!

What's in the bag?

When I was a new Scoutmaster, one of the things that surprised me the most was how many moms packed the kids' backpacks!

What is it Monty Python says? Always look on the bright side of life!

Monday Sketchbook: Phone a friend

So in priesthood yesterday the same phone went off three times. Wouldn't you turn down the ringer after the first time?

Kick it up a notch

We went to a baptism not too long ago and noticed that some of the investigators and new converts were at least a little familiar with the hymns, but the Primary songs were totally new to them. It occurred to me that familiarizing folks with Primary songs might be a good thing to include in the new member discussions. After all, nobody wants to feel out of place by missing a "Give, said the little stream" reference!

Plug in the faith and diligence

My son had lots of good stories about trying to use his GPS on his mission in Arizona. They had some pretty wild rides!

Monday Sketchbook: Health care up north

By way of explanation, I went to see my dentist this week, and he was on a bit of a Bob and Doug McKenzie kick when I went to see him this week... the hoser!

Keep on trekkin'

I thought it was time we took a look over at Zarahemla Times, where they've just started a trek reenactment...of Lehi's journey in the wilderness.
