Easter Week: Teaching His Disciples

"Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

"For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me doing; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;

"Naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

"Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

"When was we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Easter Week: Jesus Teaches

"Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

"And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

"On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

Easter Week: Cleansing the Temple

"And Jesus went in to the temple of God, and cast out all of them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

"And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves."

Easter Week: Palm Sunday

"And a great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.

"And the multitudes that went before, and the followed, cried, saying, Hossana to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord' Hosanna in the highest."

Oh, we're not finished with you yet!

If the last few general conferences have been any indicator, you might want to be prepared for April conference.

By the way, to help you be prepared for the upcoming conference, the Ward Cartoonist has released his General Conference Activity Packet — just in time to share with your family, friends, or virtual Primary class!

In the foyer

We have five boys. I'm surprised that my house is still standing.

Sketchbook: Sign of the time

Disaster nearly struck in our sacrament meeting yesterday. There was no garbage can at the podium to drop in the wipes! Luckily, an intrepid deacon was able to track one down and the meeting was saved.

Talk about living on the edge!

What's in a word?

It's possible that I may have dozed off just a little bit in one of my virtual meetings this week. But I'll deny it if you ask me!

Quiet time at the pulpit

"I felt like I was stuck, trapped, boxed in... and then I met the missionaries!"

I was worried that this idea was one that Arie Van De Graaff had done, but this is the only mime cartoon of his that I could find.

Editor's note: There's an important distinction to note — mimes don't say anything. If they were using ASL, they would indeed be speaking. Thank you.

Mixed media

I was studying my scriptures the other day while I was doodling. Or was I doodling while I was studying my scriptures. Or something.

Either way, I probably should have chosen a different format for the canvas. Oh, well!

At the end of the rainbow

A year ago, a pot full of toilet paper would have been worth its weight in gold. Ahh, the memories!

Uncommon consent

There are a few times that I wish I would have tried something like this. I'm certain I could have gotten a substantial number of votes!

Sketchbook: Time is relative

Sometimes I think that I've been wearing a mask for a long time. But that long time is a matter of perspective.

Don't look back

This is the cartoon that ran one year ago today — my first COVID-related cartoon. This ran before they decided to cancel last year's NCAA tournament altogether. It was a weird and uncertain time for all of us.

We've now gone through nearly an entire basketball season with practically empty arenas; no bands, no cheerleaders.

Selection Sunday is this weekend, and the tournament will go forward. All the games will be played in Indianapolis rather than at sites all over the country. Not as much spectacle. And still no crowds.

But we're almost there. Let's hang in there!

April Madness

It seems strange to think that a virtual general conference this time will seem  old hat. This will be the third time around, so it's like we've done it forever.

What's really going to feel strange is when we fill up the Conference Center again!

Super spiritual gifts

There are many people who think of sister missionaries as a special kind of super hero. I started playing around with the idea of sister missionaries actually having super powers (which, I'm told, they do). I definitely think this is a road worth pursuing!

There are two sides to every family

I know I've mentioned it before, but there are parts of my family history that seem a little bit shady. And apparently there are volumes of stories that we don't share. Or so I'm told.

Sketchbook: It's all wet

There's a good joke in here somewhere, but I just haven't found it. Too distracted by the bad jokes in the sketchbook, I guess.

Speak Their Language: Now the day is over

On one hand, being a missionary can wear you out. On the other hand, missionary work can also get you energized!

Speak Their Language: Called to serve

There's no service project that can't be made just a little bit better by adding donuts!

Speak Their Language: Furry friends

Our missionaries always say that they want to see our dog — a Great Pyrenees. Sometimes I can tell they don't really want to, but they're good sports.

Speak Their Language: There's some place like home

Our missionaries schedule member appointments for 8 p.m. each evening so that they can close out the day with a friendly face and a good experience. It usually works.
