I had a companion in the mission field who said that he belonged to the Church of the NFL before he was baptized. I imagine this is the kind of story they told in their Sunday school classes.
"Green" is such an overworked word these days -- everything is described as being green, or good for the environment. New missionaries are often called greenies (in case you didn't know). They may not be part of the three Rs of recycling, but they can be good for your internal environment.
If you wander through the stands at almost any high school football game, you'll see that in every group of kids there's at least one with a phone to his or her ear and another two or three texting. It was just a few years ago that only a handful of kids had cell phones. You have to go back a little farther -- but not a lot -- that this cartoon expressed the norm.
Apparently frugal is not a good label to carry in the world of dating. Who knew?
With the conversion to digital TV, cable isn't the phenomenon it once was. But I do like this cartoon -- I find it to be one of those simple joys of life to find a rerun of an old show that I like.
Back in college (when this strip ran in the student newspaper) I had several friends who looked for any excuse to skip classes and stay in bed. Those same people are now doctors, lawyers and teachers. Meanwhile, I draw cartoons. Is there a message here?
While my grandma allegedly fudged a little on some dates, I think it would be totally unethical to do a wholesale swap of unwanted relatives, don't you?
When I drew this, I was thinking that there are probably many Sunday school teachers who would like to do this, yet somehow restrain themselves. As I looked at it again, I realized that it may not be limited to Sunday school -- high school, middle school, elementary teachers. Heck, probably anyone who has taught something and given a reading assignment!
I have a feeling that there are some missionaries who tried this very thing...
My father-in-law routinely plans his chores around which games are on when, a fact that is not lost on my own offspring!
Here's a fun fact: Actually there currently is a nationwide shortage of striping paint (it is a specialty paint, after all) that is causing headaches for some highway departments across the country.
Sometimes the construction work, especially the excavation, would kick up a lot of dust even though they sprayed it down a couple of times a day. Sometimes the best defense is to agree that there is a problem.
In case you don't know, the Cougareat is the dining area of the student center at BYU. And if you don't know that, you may also not be aware that there are a lot of "fat BYU co-ed" jokes at BYU. 
And so as Labor Day marks the end of summer, we take one last look at the beach.
My oldest son had a band -- the Porcupines -- and they were pretty good, winning a local battle of the bands competition. They usually practiced at the drummer's house, which was OK with us. And our neighbors.
Here's another old 121 cartoon that I thought would never be relevant again. But thanks to the Hollywood trend of taking old, bad TV shows and turning them into new shiny, bad movies, it's cycled back! I thought I should hurry and post it, though, because the movie is on its last legs at the dollar theater. Hurry!
I have to give full credit to my dear cousin Kerri for the gag on this one. And it's true -- she does still fit in them! We're all so proud of her!
I'm sure our house was not the only one that was awake all night after Suzanne Collins' book Mockingjay was released!
