Up the geekieness quotient, or The Doctor is in

As I was driving around town a while back, I went past an apartment complex with a misspelled sign in its parking lot: too many Ns in "tenant."

Being the geek that I am, I immediately started looking for a TARDIS. Well, not really. But it gave me a chuckle, even though the gag only works with No. 10.

Allons-y!

The drop of a hat

Don't you love those days in the spring where you get a taste of every season in a single day?

Snooze

I realize that some places are still seeing snow, but spring is just around the corner!

Monday Sketchbook: Getting one's bearings

Our Sister Missionary friend is winging her way to the Land of the Morning Calm this week. In her honor, I thought I should run something to do with missionaries and Korea...even if it's the return from rather than arrival to AND a groaner to boot!

And the winner is...

So tonight is that big motion picture award celebration thingy. We've seen a lot of the movies that have been nominated this year. I remember first when I was on my mission and then when I came home, I hadn't even heard of most of the films that were up for best picture. We had one movie, The First Vision, that we showed in the Gwangju Visitor's Center, and I think we saw The Sound of Music during the holidays at the MTC. Outside of that, our knowledge of what was going on in Hollywood was very limited!

Onward, ever onward

This is the cartoon for this week's Zarahemla Times. I thought I should share it here, too, for a couple of reasons. One, one of the new missions will be right here! And two, one of my friends has been called to serve as a mission mom (her husband was called as mission president). Good luck to them as they go forth to serve!

Papers

Thank you for sticking with me while this storyline played out. When I started writing it, there were just going to be a couple of Valentine's Day cartoons. But the story had a mind of its own!

We'll have to see where it goes from here -- but not yet. Tomorrow we'll be back to our regular programming!

Monday Sketchbook: President's Day celebration

I probably shouldn't post this -- it will give some bishopric somewhere the wrong idea!

Happy President's Day! Take a president to lunch!

A holiday story

I knew a gal who aspired to have "a story," a tale that was true but unbelievable. I hope she got her wish!

More surprises

Ever have those days where almost everything goes right except for one little thing...like locking yourself out?

More than a movie

I was looking through some of my old "121" strips. Kerry Jo says that she doesn't do much dating, but she's always the one who seems to go out all the time. There may be a lesson in there somewhere!

Valentine's tradition

Sometimes Valentine's Day can be the most depressing day of the year. But there's always that hope...!

Sweetly slumber

Our ward changed meeting times at the first of the year. One mother of young kids said she was glad to have a later schedule; it meant her little ones took their naps during Sacrament Meeting. A mother of teenage boys responded that she, too, was glad of the time change, because that meant her kids were able to be awake for the meeting!

Meanwhile, in the Bourbon Street Ward...

This one almost stayed in the sketchbook. Maybe it should have.

Holiday baking

Wait, what? Kerri Jo is always making interesting holiday dishes, although this isn't quite in the same league as the Linus cookies. Or vise-versa.

LIfe isn't fair

This is the second of two cartoons I did for a computer security article. Can you imagine the dilemma of the rich guy who's trying to give away his money but no one will take it?

Monday Sketchbook: Out of the mouth

We were traveling a few weeks ago and visited another ward. There was a very enthusiastic little girl sitting a few rows ahead of us. This is one of my favorite things that she said.

There's a very good chance that this will evolve past the sketchbook and make a later appearance as a full cartoon. We'll see!

Super home teachers

I looked at my calendar and thought this week would be good for home teaching. I guess it all depends on which families we'd be visiting!

It's Groundhog Day!

Groundhog Day always tends to make me wax philosophical. Don't you find that to be true?

Career change

I was asked to come up with a cartoon to accompany an article about protecting yourself from being scammed online. OK, so the phishing joke is nothing new, I realize that. But I like the part about running off to become a Nigerian prince!
