Sketchbook: Coming soon

I don't know why this amuses me, but it does. By the way, it's not too late to do your home teaching!

We found a winner!

We just had our annual ward chili cook-off. I felt the effects of it all night!

Fighting global warming, one apartment at a time

But, wait! There's more!
Today just happens to be Mormon Cartoonist Arie Van De Graaff's birthday. Stop over to his website and wish him well!

Timing is everything

We have to get up at 5:30 to get ready for early morning seminary. They announce school closures at 6 a.m. Some people think that isn't fair!

Mind games

Sometimes it takes more than warm thoughts!

Wet and nasty

Weeds. Leaves. Litter pick up. There's definitely a pattern here.

Where's all the good stuff?

In our family, apparently, we had a historian who would sometimes just make stuff up.

Sketchbook: Enough is enough!

I understand there are a lot of people feeling this way!

Counting those blessings

This was true for at least two of my areas as a missionary.

That's one way to measure progress

I love it when a relationship reaches a major milestone like that!

They're a cold bunch

It takes a couple of days to warm up after spending a couple of nights in the snow!

It's never a good idea

To tell you the truth, I've never seen a Scout wash anything more than a dish at snow camp!

Always look on the bright side

As my old scoutmaster used to say, just be sure you don't wet the bed!

A camp by any other name would feel as cold

I had no concept of what snow camping was about when I went on my first winter camp. With my summer sleeping bag and cotton clothes, I learned a lot about what not to do very quickly!

No ice cream?

Cooking at winter camp can be either really, really good — or really, really bad. In our troop, the adult leaders have their meal, and the scouts have their own. One of those groups has food that's really, really good. I'll leave it to you to guess which one!

Getting ready for camp

If there's one camp you don't want to miss as a Scout, it's snow camp. Even if you only do it once — that may be all it takes!

Gospel topics

Just once I'd really like to see this happen. It would probably have to be one of Arie Van De Graaff's cartoons, though!

And how trunky is it?

There's nothing like a junior companion to make you feel old.

Help a sister out

One of the challenging things that new missionaries face is being confronted with several unfamiliar things all at once. Oftentimes it's a new language, a new city, a new companion, new food, new home and new transportation all at once. You learn to adapt quickly!

Sketchbook: Self promotion

Here's one of the Mission President sketches that didn't make it into print. I like the punchline, but I feel like it's just asking for trouble!

The Top Ten, Part II

Now, for the rest!

No. 5
I really shouldn't be surprised at how many of the top cartoons deal with either Star Wars or Star Trek. This one commemorates the 50th anniversary of Star Trek — it's party time on the Enterprise!

No. 4
A lot of things get shared during Sharing Time in Primary. And sometimes those things relate to the gospel! One thing's for certain: when you teach Primary, you learn a lot about your kids' families.

No. 3
This one was strongly influenced by the death of Anton Yelchin, the actor who plays Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek movies.

No. 2
Pioneer treks are a chance to get a new perspective on your heritage. I'm surprised at how many kids seem to get a kick out of wearing pioneer-era clothes!

No. 1
Values. They're gonna be big.

That's it for 2016. Now on to 2017! Happy New Year!
