You've got to watch your step

Missionaries learn all kinds of tricks to deal with, um, interesting dinner appointments.

These qualify for the work

This reminds me of the time a former stake president's son told me that it was OK to run a red light near the high school. His mom did it all the time if there was nobody around to see it!

There's no app for that?

My kids today wonder how anyone could have navigated the waters of dating and courtship without any electronic means whatsoever.

Those were the days.

That face seems so familiar...

I tried a new technique with this drawing, mixing lines drawn in ink and drawn in pencil. It didn't work quite the way I had hoped, but it came out OK. And I have a better idea of what to do next time I try this.

Safety first

Unfortunately, we've had several opportunities over these past several months to test our emergency preparedness: the pandemic, wildfires and a brutal ice storm.

Anyone want to brush up on their provident living?

Sketchbook: Scoop cut

This one just seemed a little too silly, especially when the barber is holding an ice cream scoop. The sketchbook is where this one remains.

...and out the other

I'll leave it up to you to decide what kind of lesson it was: church, school, webinar.

Taking care of our own

If we don't watch out for them, who will?

Hungering and thirsting, after

I was going to hold off on running this until fast Sunday... but I couldn't wait!

I hope I can remember my combination

Another argument for reopening schools!

Our district was supposed to start holding in-person classes for the lower elementary kids this week. But then we got hit with an ice storm last Thursday that took out power to a huge swath of the state. Here it is almost a week later and there are still a lot of houses without power, and classes have been canceled all week.

These past twelve months have been strange!

Though your socks be as scarlet

Actually, I've felt this way most of my life — as a missionary, as a toddler parent, and especially when I took our teenaged boys camping when I was scoutmaster!

Sketchbook: I was made for loving you

This one almost seems too obvious. Hence, it stays in the sketchbook.

Social distance or cold shoulder?

Valentine's Day is going to be kind of low-key for us this year. Not only are we still dealing with the pandemic, we're also in the middle of an ice storm, AND we have stake conference to boot!

However you get to celebrate, have a good Valentine's Day!

Taking it to the (Beehive) House

LDS cartoonists seem to pick on Brigham Young, Nephi, Moroni, Samuel the Lamanite and Captain Moroni. I really hope each of those guys has a sense of humor!

A heart to heart

Now, the flip side of yesterday's cartoon.

I only have hearts for you, temporarily

This is a product I'd love to see in Deseret Book next Valentine's Day!

The downside is, it has the zone leaders.

One of the many reasons that I’m more of a dog person.

Outrageous fortunes

This idea was languishing in my notebooks with a slight change in wording: "To mask, or not to mask..."

Then Dr. Fauci made the suggestion that we'd all be better off with double masking — and suddenly, this had new life.

Either way, let's be careful out there!

Who's in charge here?

I swear I had a half-dozen calls today from various numbers about an "unusual charge of $720" on my Amazon account.

Call in the professionals

Which would be cheaper, renting the goats or feeding the youth?

A whole new world

As a missionary, I was in my first area for five months — a place in the northeast corner of the mission. My first transfer took me to the opposite corner of the mission. It really did seem like a completely different planet!

On a side note, I wonder if that's how it works in the Star Trek mission?

Sketchbook: Yes, we have Baby Yoda

I made sure to include Grogu — he was a lot easier to draw than Mando!
