He's the man with the monster touch

So what if you traded a James Bond villain like Goldfinger or Dr. No with Dr. Frankenstein? What would happen?

Another cheesy cartoon

For some reason I seem to have a lot of zombie cartoons set in France. I'm sure there's some deep explanation for why that is.

They walk among us

Now don't get up an arms about this — I have many friends and family members who serve and served as senior missionaries. And I don't think any of them are zombies. Well, most of them anyway.

Sketchbook: Time is of Primary importance

We just had our Primary program on Sunday. The kids were super excited. I can't imagine what it would be like next week — especially if they wore costumes!

The missionaries are at the door

Just (barely) in time for Halloween — it's my new collection of Halloween-themed cartoons: "The Missionaries are at the Door and Other Terrifying Tales" available on Amazon. It's got monsters, it's got zombies, it has pumpkins, it has missionaries! Order a copy or two today!

Oh, Babylon!

Have you ever had the experience of singing a hymn and hearing it in a different way than you ever have before?

That takes some guts

Just how trunky can one feel when one's hands are full of pumpkin innards?

They're watching...but not listening

I've heard more than one missionary complain about the number of home security systems they encountered — even when visiting members!

Winged terror

Sometimes missionaries share their apartments with scary things. Besides their companions.

It creeps, and leaps, and glides and slides across the floor

Our ward had its annual Chili Cook Off last week*. I'm always astonished at the wide variety of chilis that come in — hot, sweet, bland — and there's a wide variety of textures as well. No two are the same.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of them took on a life of their own. And started creeping, leaping and sliding across the floor.

*And, appropriately, Bro. Bean said the opening prayer.

Sketchbook: Catch of the day

Halloween Movies for Missionaries is one of the more popular series that I’ve run in October. I’m making some more this year, but I wasn’t sure about including this one. For one thing, it’s a TV series rather than a movie — but it’s also Korean.

Whenever I hear the name, I think back to the fish market in Busan and all of the sights, sounds and smells. And I think of dried cuttlefish — but that’s another story for another day!

One night in the dungeon

Gee, I hope the magic hasn't gone out of their relationship.

Every doubt will fly

It's difficult to carry heavy burdens when you spend all your time floating.

One more for the road

This is an old sketchbook entry from several years ago. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out!

Sketchbook; Welcome to my nightmare

Remember how stressful it was when you first thought about working from home? And how stressful it feels now when you think about going back to the office?

Heaven scent, and flavored

But then again if manna changed flavors with the season, they wouldn't have been whining for quail!

Sidekicks

The original sketch of this included two other monsters: Frankenstein's monster with a mixed breed dog, and Wolfman with a pup.

From Noah's dad

I guess this is less a cartoon gag and more of a dad joke. That's why we call him Father Noah.

Of course it may just say that from every number...

Projected growth

My wife anticipated every conceivable situation that could come up for my son while he was serving as a missionary. She carefully packed his suitcase so that he was prepared against each contingency.

Two years later he came home with all that stuff still in the original suitcase, still in its original packaging. The good news is, he has an awesome emergency kit that's ready to go!

Sketchbook: Conference Notes

I've compiled my sketch notes from October General Conference into a downloadable file. For me, it's a handy review of what I heard, and hopefully the notes will help you remember some of your thoughts and feelings. I thought it was a wonderful conference — and it's given me lots of things to work on!

Conference Prep: Open up

Let's just say that sometimes it's easier to stay awake during general conference than others.

Tune in today and tomorrow — you'll be glad you did!

Conference Prep: Choose the write

What messages stand out to you? Write down the thoughts and feelings that come into your heart and to your mind. Then act on those promptings — you will be blessed!
