If you aren't near one physically, you can go online and contribute. I think one year we really did buy a goat; another year we bought a beehive. There are lots of ways to give. But most of all, give from your heart.

Sketchbook: Survey says...

Yes, it's usually a good idea to talk to your ministering brothers or sisters or else the elders quorum or Relief Society presidencies first. Even if your bishop is amazing, like ours.
 

For Emily and her mom

A short time ago I was contacted by the daughter of one of my friends from college who remembered her mom telling her about my cartoons from back in the day. That reminded me of a series I did way back then about Thanksgiving, and this one in particular about going back to school after the holiday.

Image scanning technology has improved a lot in the ensuing years, so the resolution on this isn't what I would like it to be. But it was a fun trip down memory lane! Not only that, it reminded me of the time I flew Turkish Air — and they gave us turkey sandwiches for the in-flight meal!

A holiday for thanks

Thanksgiving is an awesome holiday! When else, really, does the entire country take time to focus on gratitude — at least in theory!

As I was drawing this, the gag seemed somehow familiar. Some quick research revealed why: it's similar to one I did with zombies playing church basketball! The big difference is in the spelling. Gotta love homonyms!

Maybe it's just me, but I think these turkeys look like they could have come from the pen of the Ward Cartoonist, Arie Van De Graaff — who incidentally has a new book out, just in time for the holidays! It's the Old Testament Come, Follow Me Activity Book. If you're a Primary teacher, youth teacher, parent, grandparent, or all on your own, this would be a great gift to supplement your Come, Follow Me studies! Heck, I'll bet even the Elders Quorum would get a kick out of using it!

Sketchbook: Special fast

As I sat in Sunday school class a few weeks ago, I wondered what it would be like to be in a ward full of turkeys? Hey, there are worse things I could think about! This is one of the better ideas I came up with. 

 

Keep an eye out for him

OK, I have to say I enjoyed drawing this one. You can see I had some indecision on what the pirate symbol should be: a wishbone or a turkey skull? 

I'm also kind of proud of the parrot on his shoulder. It made more sense than a monkey!

Forget the fancy linens and ornate tableware. Give me a paper tablecloth and a packet of crayons and I'm a happy diner!

The fall time change is one of the best Sundays of the year. That extra hour of sleep certainly helps — although you can count on certain families to still be late for church!

With yesterday being both Sunday and Halloween, our family had a conversation about the appropriateness of wearing a costume to church. And, no, the bishop didn't dress up like a zombie — but he sure looked like he could use a nap!
