Sketchbook: Chunky or smooth detergent?

Sometimes things in the sketchbook get a little ridiculous. Why in the world would missionaries think it's a good idea to waste something as valuable as peanut butter on something as trivial as laundry?
 

Building up Zion

We've been talking a lot about Enoch and preparing a Zion people. Can you tell?

Pres. Nelson has called on us to help build Zion. Luckily, we have a couple of sets of plans thanks to modern revelation: the Nephites in Fourth Nephi (it worked for a while) and Enoch and his city in Moses.

Our dog could certainly swallow a missionary whole — she’s a Great Pyrenees — but she chooses not to.

I thought briefly about a scenario that involved Han Solo and Alderaan, but that just seemed wrong.
 

Sketchbook: Old days

As we read through our Come, Follow Me recently, we had a little discussion on the ages of some of the folks that are listed in Genesis. With folks living to be hundreds of years old and still having kids, what was considered to be middle age? Most people didn't retire at 65 — but I imagine ol' Methuselah probably built up a good sized pension!
 

Dress for success

At first I was afraid that this was pushing the PG boundaries, but then I stopped by the nursery. We're good.
 

Well, that's deep

I know it's all a matter of perspective, but the font sure seemed a lot bigger when I was baptized as a kid — and deeper, too!
 

By uncommon consent

Admit it. We've all been disappointed when someone's been released —a favorite teacher, an advisor or bishop. Just once it would be nice to say no: keep them in!
 

Begatting sons and daughters

The enhancements that have been made to Family Search really do make it a lot more fun to do family history. I also think it we me cool if we had photos and memories of Methuselah, Mahalaleel and Cainan. 
 

Sketchbook: Big changes

Our nursery is down to just two kids since we did the class changes at the beginning of the year. On the other end of the spectrum, our priests quorum is huge!
 

Feasting upon the word

Few things motivate a missionary like the prospects of a meal. There was many a time when dinner was the highlight of the day — especially on fast Sunday! Even if we occasionally griped about the food, we were certainly thankful it was there!

Food for thought: I learned that we could fast for different amounts of time; we weren't limited to fasting for a full day. If we only had ten minutes to fast before giving a blessing, for example, it could be done. It's the spirit of the fast, not just the going without food.

 

Awakenings

Before I went into the Missionary Training Center, I didn't think getting up at 6:30 in the morning was that big of a deal. I'd had early morning seminary, before school practices, and a paper route. But the days are so full that morning comes a lot earlier in the MTC! 
 

On top of the world

My experience of sleeping on the top bunk in the MTC was more like Sis. Kerry Jo's than this elder.
 

Sing we now at parting

Have you ever been singing reverently in church and suddenly think, wouldn't it be funny if...? 

Sketchbook: Periodic adjustments

We just shifted from 10:30 to the 9 o'clock schedule for our meetings. It's taken a little bit of work to get used to, but we're getting there.

Protect yourself, protect others

I told myself that I wouldn't be doing any more cartoons with face masks, but I liked this idea too much to let it go. 

The question is, would helmets make church basketball safer or even more dangerous?

Those cold windows of heaven

Looking back at some of my older cartoons, bishops have been the recipient of ten percent of a litter of kittens, ten percent of Halloween candy, ten percent of used pumpkins, and have taken in all sorts of donations in kind. It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it!
 

I came down from heaven

Meteorologists often say that the weather is the result of two fronts meeting up. This totally makes sense.
