Degrees of glory

In Korea, there were those members who gave us the mild kimchi, and there were those who went in the other direction. Who loved us best?

Sketchbook: What about Deborah?

I'm glad that we get to learn about the warrior prophetess Deborah! She's awesome!

Things start to move pretty fast now in the Old Testament and Come, Follow Me. This week we not only get to talk about Deborah, but Gideon and Sampson, too!

Improvement Era

Somebody should take this idea and run with it. But rather than being a monthly periodical, it should come out every six weeks to correspond with transfers.

Crash course

The kids are back! After their struggles with the City of Enoch and the Tower of Babel, I’m beginning to think that an Old Testament series may not be the models to buy.

Sanctuary

Missionary apartments are like no other dwelling place. Sometimes in a good way.

Sketchbook: Joshua’s band

The “it will bring down the house” joke is too obvious.

Always an ear-opener

I've talked to so many returned missionaries who all say the same thing: popular music really changed while they were out serving. Usually not for the better.*

*Note for historical accuracy: There were missionaries who were serving when disco died. They are the exception that proves the rule.

What, me worry?

I'm glad I never gave my mission president cause to worry. :)

Ye who are called to labor

Yes, there’s a lot more that missionaries do each day. And, no, we shouldn’t include eating and sleeping — that’s part of the training regimen!

No Fast Pass accepted

If the story of Moses and the children of Israel teaches us anything, it’s that it takes a lot of work to make it to the promised land!

Sketchbook: Hitting the wall, or Hang in there

I came across this in an old sketchbook — probably drawn in the early days of the pandemic. It's not particularly a funny drawing, but to me it seemed kind of poignant.

We all have down days, days that seem futile. But with patience, perseverance and enduring to the end (to me, that means not giving up in the middle), life will work it out.

Pres. Hinckley said the same thing“It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning, If you do your best, it will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us.”

Morning report

As we read the story of Caleb, Joshua and the other ten scouts spying out the promised land, it occurred to me that the trend of labeling something you disagree with as "fake news" is not a new trend.

Lost in space

The idea for today's cartoon comes from my faithful padawan. I like the "planet" variation on the gag. It made me laugh.

Road trip!

Apparently it takes about 11 days to travel from the base of Mt. Sinai to the promised land. Anyone who has taken a road trip with their family knows that travel times are only theoretical.

On a side note, our ward had a fundraising auction for FSY and girl's camp. One of the things I auctioned off was the chance to be featured in a cartoon. The winner was the Thayer family, featured in the first panel.

Now you know the rest of the story!

Sketchbook: Clean up

That’s another thing they rarely show in movies — how do those superheroes keep their uniforms looking so clean?

Wait, who was it that broke that first set?

May the Fourth be with you, again.

I would be willing to wager that there is a large percentage of missionaries who have Star Wars sleep pants.

The posters on the wall are some of the Star Wars -themed memes and promotions we've done at my work. The latest is on the far left, Baby Snowda. We had a snowplow naming contest for a school in eastern Oregon, and that's the name they come up with.

Have a safe and happy May Fourth, and may the fourth be with you!

You’re appreciated

Perhaps we don’t appreciate them enough.

Be good to your teachers, this week and always!

Sketchbook: And let's add a choir

Someone always has an idea to improve on divine designs.
