A voice from above

Oddly enough, this looks a little like our local grocery store.

This sure would have been fun to try as a missionary, though.

Talking it out

Elder Gillies was the best for companion inventory. We'd choose a good location where we could talk and contact people at the same time. We had some productive sessions — and met some great people!

What's in your cart?

Not that long ago I walked out of the grocery store at the same time as our sister missionaries. I had a case of soda and a pizza; they had a grocery bag full of fruits and vegetables.

But I had veggies on my pizza, so that counts, doesn't it?

Sketchbook: Awards season

Could this award go to someone in our class? Why, yes, it could.

This stayed in the sketchbook because it’s not clear what the kid is holding — a gag. So, ultimately, this failed because it’s hard to make a gag about a gag. And that’s not what we do in Primary anyway!

And you can gain a year of eligibility!

Ever since the NCAA came up with their scheme to allow athletes to shop schools — and schools to shop athletes — I've been thinking that there's some sort of cartoon in there. It all came together the other day when I saw a rerun of Stargate.

One eternal round

In our Come, Follow Me this week, Jacob talks about things that are infinite and everlasting. I tried to think of ways to liken that concept unto us, and this is what I came up with. It never ends.

On a different note

I understand that in some areas they’re still deep into the snow songs and will be singing Once There Was a Snowman for a good while yet.

It was in vein

Have you ever hit that point when you feel you just need an extra spiritual boost? There's not an artificial way to get it, though. It comes from those old basics: scripture study, prayer, pondering and covenants.

Sketchbook: The song of the righteous

Every now and then, our ward has a sacrament meeting in which instead of talks, people are invited to share a hymn and why it is meaningful to them — and then we sing a verse (or two) from that hymn. It's kind of like a musical testimony meeting. Our organist and director get a good workout.

It's interesting to hear why a hymn is significant to an individual. That gives more meaning  as we sing together and invites the spirit to sing along.

Hope springs eternal

I wonder what a celestial car seat would look like? It probably wouldn't be sticky.

You have entered...the Zone

A long time ago, I shared a similar cartoon. I'm not sure which one is sadder!

Sketchbook: Opposition

There was a lot of opposition in the Big Game, wasn't there?

On the Lord’s errand

I could never figure out why P-day was just a different set of tasks we had to do.

The important stuff

The statute of limitations has expired, so it’s safe now to say that sometimes we’d visit members for no other reason than we knew that they would feed us.

Sartorial matters

Sometimes a lick will do it. For the really tough stains, you have to chew.

Molten tools

To be fair, Nephi was apprenticed to a pretty good mentor.
