Hold that call!

My call was opened about a half-second after it touched the mailbox.

Full meal deal

Strangely enough, this idea came to me as I was scrounging together money for lunch.

The home awakens

I know it's a bit early for Star Wars Day (May the Fourth), but there's something else in the works for that day that I'm pretty excited about.

Meanwhile, ponder this: there's a whole bunch of missionaries who still haven't had a chance to see The Force Awakens!

Sketchbook: It's a gas

I can't take credit for this, although it really did come from my sketchbook. We had a fireside last night with Will Tukuafu of the Seattle Seahawks, who is LDS. He wasn't really crying during his testimony. It was tear gas.

I would have made the drawing look more like No. 46, but he threatened everyone that "this better not show up on Snapchat!" I decided not to take the risk.

Winning by a hair

Maybe missionary bike helmets should be covered with achievement stickers like they do in football. So many lessons taught: sticker. Book of Mormon placed: sticker. Baptism: sticker.

Maybe I should pass that idea on to the Missionary Committee...

...and now back to our regular programming

It's gotta be a challenge to plan the first couple of sacrament meeting programs in the weeks following General Conference. It's a tough act to follow!

Sketchbook: What are temples for?

We visited the Rexburg Temple on Sunday afternoon, and there were lots of young couples there.  Someone nearby said something about "canoodling." It seemed like a perfect excuse for me to use that word!

Underwater throwback

Yep. This old cartoon is educational. How many hearts does an octopus have?

Sustained throwback

When my site was about six months old, I was contacted by one of my faithful readers with an idea from real life. It transpired almost exactly like the cartoon (fist pump included).

Thanks, Christi, for the idea!

Sketchbook: Wild West Throwback

Last week I mentioned that this blog is now eight years old. Back in the early days there wasn't much in the way of readership. I thought it might be fun to go back and look at some of those early posts that haven't seen the light of day in years.

This one, was the second sketchbook excerpt that I posted. It still makes me smile.

Jots and tittles

In the Missionary Handbook it says (or it used to say), "A goal not written is only a wish." The same thing is true with paperwork: if it isn't documented, it didn't happen!

In which I become accountable

Today marks the eighth anniversary of this blog! That means I've reached the age of accountability, so now I guess I have to start being responsible. Dang!

As usual when I reach a major milestone, I bring back my first cartoon ever published — that was a LONG time ago! Since that time my cartoons have appeared in many newspapers, magazines, websites (in several different languages), and many have been appropriated to be fill material in ward bulletins!

Thank you for your continued support and readership. Keep coming back!

Rock stars!

If you haven't listened to (or read) all of the talks from General Conference yet, you really ought to. There's a lot of really good stuff! I'd start listing some of my favorites, but that would be most of them!

The General Conference page on the Church website makes it easy — in addition to videos, there is also a page that has summaries. They've really added a lot to the site. Check out those (built upon the) rock stars!

Sketchbook: General Conference notes

Another wonderful conference has come to a close. There were a lot of great messages, a lot of answers, and a lot of things I need to work on!

I've made a PDF of my notes that you can download and use. They're good for review and to use in conjunction with the Mormon Cartoonist's review packet (there's your Family Night lesson right there!). Please feel free to share them!

Conference Sketchbook: The Saturday Sessions

A lot of amazing talks on Saturday! I think Priesthood was my favorite session, if for no other reason than we got to hear from the entire First Presidency!

Tomorrow I'll have Sunday's notes and a compilation of all six sessions.  Stay tuned!

There in spirit

It's General Conference! Remember, there are three sessions today, including Priesthood. Grab a tie and go!

Watch tomorrow for my notes from today's sessions. Enjoy General Conference!
