Good night

I have to admit that I struggled with this one. There are so many possible "three" things in the Church! Three Nephites, Three Witnesses and even Pres. Uchdorf's three sisters!

I finally decided on three missionaries. If you ever served in a trio, you know how uncomfortable that can be!
 

A city on a hill cannot be hid

We had some senior missionaries return to our ward recently. The sister was the medical person for the mission. She said that she not only had stories that were uncomfortable, she had some pretty gross photos as well!

That's exactly how it worked with me!

Let the trumpets blow

Last week in Come, Follow Me we learned about Joshua and the battle of Jericho. This week as we study Judges, we learn about Gideon and his surprise attack at night. Both stories involve the shofar, the trumpets made out of ram's horns. 

That got me to wondering, would I know how to make a trumpet out of a ram's horn? It sounds easy, but it's probably harder than it seems!
 

Sketchbook: Hair today

It's a little sad when a missionary starts to go bald while out on a mission. But we can still do jokes about it — as long as they don't get past the sketchbook stage!

The summer movie season officially begins Memorial Day weekend in the United States. The Devil Wears Prada 2 was one of the first out of the gate. That got me to wondering what it would be like if Miranda Priestly met with the missionaries? 
 

Get thee up

Not that I'd ever fall asleep reading stories to my kids! And not that they'd find the most obnoxious way to wake me up!
 

Bringing down the house

As I was finishing this up, I had a flash of insight that this could have been more effective if it was elementary-aged kids. Instead of smooth jazz, they would have said, "I'll bet Joshua's army got to play something more exciting than Hot Cross Buns!"

Yet I still wonder whether the walls of Jericho would have come tumbling down to Kenny G or Chuck Mangione?

Sketchbook: Hungry?

I like the idea of these missionary heads gobbling up everything in sight. But when I tried to move it beyond the sketchbook, it looked a little gruesome!

Maybe I spent too much time as a youth listening to the soundtracks of My Turn on Earth and Saturday's Warrior at full volume. But whatever the reason, my hearing isn't exactly what it used to be. So when the missionaries challenged us to share the gospel, as Pres. Uchtdorf says, "in normal and natural ways" somehow I heard it as "normal unnatural ways!"

I tried to save this idea for October, but I couldn't wait. Naturally.
 

Going deep

These kinds of hypothetical discussions are sometimes fun to have. Personally I think the missionaries would think they struck gold if they knocked into Bluey's family. Hello Kitty might be a little too aloof to be interested beyond a few discussions, IMHO.

But what I'd really like to see? Muffin in the nursery
 

Emergency repair kit

This should come with a warning that missionary moms should not read this one. However, I can't tell you the number of times as a missionary that I made emergency repairs using tape of one kind or another. Staples can work in a pinch, but they can also be hazardous in their own right.

Sketchbook: Never can say goodbye

If there's a recurring theme in the books of Moses, it's the notion that people a resistant to change. Nobody really wants to leave Egypt!

Luke often reminds me of an earnest, new missionary, fresh from the MTC. He goes barging in with great intent, but not much of a plan.

Han, on the other hand, is a senior companion who is two transfers away from going home.
