Trained up in the way

Why doesn't this ever happen in my class?

Pluses and minuses

...but generally you get called out to take care of a messy diaper, and that can be milked for a long time.

Gotta catch them all!

With so many Church buildings serving as Pokemon gyms or training centers, the Church issued a statement saying that all visitors are welcome whatever brings them to our buildings. It's not a huge leap, then, to have the IT folks at Church headquarters develop a useful app like this!

TBT: Hide and Seek

It's another Throwback Thursday (a special treat for July)! This particular set is from high school, so please be forgiving!

I don't know if anyone else can see this, but these two characters are loosely based on Linus and Lucy — without looking like Linus and Lucy (I was so clever!).

I think I may have used this gag in a later cartoon, so there was at least some value in it!

One thing that these Throwback cartoons have shown me is that my drawing skills have definitely improved over the years!

They walked and walked and walked too

There are a lot of similarities between missionaries and early pioneers. The food and sleeping quarters can sometimes be questionable as well.

Returning to our roots

I seem to be having some type of technical glitch that's preventing today's regularly scheduled cartoon from uploading. I can't figure it out, so rather than belabor it (it is the Sabbath, after all), here's one of my favorites from a couple of years ago.

Have an amazing Pioneer Day!

On the wagon

They couldn't just walk and walk and walk and walk everywhere, could they?

TBT: Crossing the plains

It's another Throwback Thursday (a special treat for July)! This particular set is from high school, so please be forgiving!

The idea for this one isn't bad. I find the art interesting — like what's up with that hat and those boots? and polka dots on the snail's shell? We won't even talk about the wagon...!

The way things were

There are some generations where you just can't say that you had it tougher than they did!

Sketchbook: True confessions

Actually we do it to honor our ancestors and create cultural awareness in a lighthearted vein.

But occasionally we feel guilty about it. Little twinges, maybe. A bit.

Layers of history

I showed this to one of my old scouts, and he said it was true.

TBT: In this corner...!

It's another Throwback Thursday (a special treat for July)! This particular set is from high school, so please be forgiving!

I wonder if this was based on real life experience...

Sketchbook: That home teaching rush

I think I told you the one about when I got pulled over by my kid's Sunday school teacher when I was on my way to tithing settlement...

I thought traffic laws didn't count if you're on your way to a church thing!?

...and we're in!

I know on Sunday I usually run a church-related gag, but I think we're all anxious to see the end of Jenny Ear and her case. Our regular programming will return tomorrow. Thanks for your indulgence!

We won't get fooled again!

I liked the line, "But Jenny Ear is no Magnum PI."

Hang on, we're at the pre-award process." We're getting near the end!

Watch your steps

The application process for consultants could go one of two ways, cleverly called the "one step process" or the "two step process."

Stay tuned!

TBT: The Scouting program

For the month of July, I'm running some old (really old) cartoons for Throwback Thursday. I recently came across this particular set from when I was in high school.

These were done with pen and ink with an ink wash. The paper was yellowed and didn't scan well, so I've tried to replicate the look in Photoshop.

The gags are a little lame, but the art is even worse. Enjoy!

The search begins

We took the steps of how to get into the consultant pool and turned them into the clues that Jenny Ear, PI, uses to crack the case.

Stay tuned! Our story continues on Friday!

In the beginning...

A few years ago (quite a few actually), our Consultant Services Section at the Utah Department of Transportation wanted to explain their program. But they wanted to do something out of the ordinary, something that was a little different than the run-of-the-mill PowerPoint. We came up with this concept of a private investigator — N. Jenny Ear (a play on "engineer") — who was trying to crack the case of the "break in:" how to get in to the pool of consultants at UDOT.

Here's how it unfolded.

What say ye?

Alma exhorted us to remember the captivity of our fathers, both in a temporal and spiritual sense. It's good to remember what Liberty is all about.

Making the best of it

Are there fire restrictions where you are? Sometimes you just have to make do with what you have!

What day is it?

I probably should have run this yesterday — the REAL Canada Eve!

Enjoy the day, eh?
