Sorry, no punch line here. It's just an illustration I did for my sister-in-law's Primary activity. It's kind of a long story, but they needed some Gadianton Robbers* as decorations. In the same party they had a bean bag toss through Goliath's head. Must've been some party!
So Christy and I were talking the other night, and I said something about "thinking outside the box." And she said, "Oh, I thought you were thinking in the can." 
I was skimming through the blogosphere the other day, and I came across "Ode to the Owens", and there was one entry that caught my eye: one of her sons said that his ambition as a grownup was to wear a suit. That got me thinking, and I took it to another level. So, props to lisaowens and her progeny for the inspiration!
I saw in the news that several baseball fans were caught trying to steal parts of the old Yankee Stadium following the final home game. Can't say that I blame them for trying, but I guess some of them got overly ambitious in their souvenir sampling. We didn't have that problem on University Avenue. Folks weren't lining up to take home chunks of old, nasty concrete!
With all the hullabaloo over the markets, this old cartoon came to mind for some reason.
We haven't visited good Heavens for a while. Jack is getting to know his neighbors.
This was true when it was first published a few elections ago, and it's still true today.
Because the project was going so well, under budget and ahead of schedule, it was expanded another half-mile or so. We discovered a swamp under the road, which was kind of exciting...but didn't get quite the public reaction that the old trolley tracks did back on Center Street (go figure!). I think we just marketed it wrong!
This actually reminds me of a place in Busan that we would go to on special occasions*, the Fisherman's Club. It was this hangout down by the waterfront that had pretty good burgers and decent pizza. Its customers were mostly crews from the ships in port, and included people from all over the world. Like 'most everyplace else we went, we as missionaries really stood out from the crowd. I could almost imagine something like this happening.
I was actually surprised we didn't find more homework, backpacks or textbooks "accidentally" dropped in the excavation for University Avenue.
This Friday (Sept. 19) is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. So that got me thinking, what would happen if the missionaries met up with a pirate ship? This is one thought I came up with. I'll have another one on Friday.
This is one that ran a long time ago in The New Era. And why am I running it today? Because they just called me as a ward missionary!
And, as something for the "gee-whiz" file, my aunt and uncle are on the cover of this month's Ensign.
NEWS ITEM: The football field at West Salem High School is found to have an abnormally high lead content. 
It was perfect timing that the construction only affected two schools (BYU and Provo High), and we were working in front of both of them when they each started classes.
Yes, we had the main entrance to campus blocked off for the first few weeks, but it all worked out OK. I've been sworn to secrecy, however, about whether this cartoon is actually true.
In celebration of the start of school, I thought I'd run this one that never made it past the sketchbook.
I've been waiting to run this one, and I just can't any longer! Anyone else identify with Ralph?

Tomorrow is the first day of school, and we are all very much looking forward to it. Especially when you add in early morning seminary!
