Pioneers: The Next Generation

How about a parade of poodle skirts?

In case you didn't know, Days of '47 is the big celebration in Salt Lake City commemorating the date the Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. The more you know!

Not a Sketchbook: Pioneer Day Celebration

OK, so I know it's not a sketchbook — as Mondays usually are. I was going through my old cartoons and came across this cartoon of a pre-mission Kerry Jo in the kitchen on Pioneer Day.

But I suppose there were never any pioneer children who misbehaved, right? You never hear stories about them anyway.

Happy day, all is (not) well

For one of the trek experiences that our stake participated in, they chose an "authentic" pioneer menu for the kids — lots of beans, gruel and flatbread.

It was not well received.

The leaders finally got the message when one of the kids asked, "Are you going to steal my livestock and burn my house to the ground while we're out here?"

The meals the next year were fabulous!

I had a former bishop who would unashamedly go for the treat drawer when he felt the need!

Which makes me wonder: how many counseling appointments could be avoided if the bishop first gave out a Snickers bar — because you're just not yourself until you've had a Snickers!
