I'm looking through you

Be safe out there tonight. Make sure you're visible.

Happy Halloween!

Sketchbook: The Mummy Speaks!

I liked the idea of missionaries visiting the monsters on the ward list, but this one seemed to be a little out of character with the rest.

P.S. Having served as ward clerk, I know exactly what he's talking about!

It's a scheduling thing

It does make it difficult to get up in the morning — especially on fast Sunday!

Parts is parts

Those notations on the member records can sometimes be a little vague.

Member outreach

You always meet such interesting people when you try to clean up the records of the ward!

Sketchbook: Second hour sorrows

There has been a marked decrease in the number of people discussing college football after sacrament meeting over the past few weeks. On the plus side, the Gospel Doctrine ranks have grown!

Brain food — literally

This is a refinement (if you will) of an old sketchbook idea from several years ago.

That poor kid at the counter! He has to deal with a lot of interesting customers!

Where the dogs of society howl

I struggled with what I wanted the Cowardly Lion to say. The nerves? (ew!) Toto too? (hmm). I like how "munchkins" works. What do you think?

It's got some great fruit, though!

There's some truth to this.

The worst experiences I had in an area as a missionary was the one that had the nicest apartment. Conversely, the area that had the worst housing was one of my favorite and most productive areas. Maybe it's because we wanted to be out of the house more so we spent extra time working, but I don't think that was it!

A word from our sponsor

"Behold and lo, mine eyes are upon you, and the heavens and the earth are in mine hands, and the riches of eternity are mine to give."
D&C 67:2

It's good to remind yourself of that every now and then.

A wing and a prayer

We had a few technical difficulties this week. We got a new scanner, and it isn't functioning quite the way we had hoped. Consequently, this cartoon is a little bit late. It still holds true, though.

My two cents: if you can't support the team, at least support the players.

By any other name, it would still smell

If all the pumpkin spice things really smelled and tasted like pumpkins really do they wouldn't sell nearly as well!

Sketchbook: The law of a little fast

Each month members of the Church have a day of fasting. Fasting includes abstaining from food and drink for two consecutive meals. It's meant to help us gain spiritual strength and to help us bless others. When we fast with a purpose, it makes it more meaningful and helps draw us closer to our Father in Heaven.

Fasting without a purpose, it has been said, is simply going hungry.

These days, there seems to be a preponderance of purposes for which one could fast.

Dress for the season

Halloween wasn't such a big thing where I served, but they did have a lot of interesting patterns for neckwear.  Therefore, I wore my scariest looking tie for Halloween. How scary is it? Well, it's won a couple of ugly tie contests since then, and it has its own secret hiding place so my wife won't throw it away when I'm not looking!

Dress code

I have to admit, a similar thought was going through my mind as I got ready to go to work on Monday.

Sketchbook: Post-Conference

I was sorry to hear of Elder Hales' passing yesterday, yet I liked how Elder Andersen put it: "He's graduated." In his memory, I pulled up my notes from his address from the April General Conference — his last address.

By the way, a compilation of my notes from the October General Conference is available for download as a PDF through Dropbox. Feel free to download, copy and share.
