It ads up

The Safari Guy made his appearance in paid display ads as well. Here are a couple we had a little fun with.

We really worked closely with the city and the downtown business organization during the public information campaign. It was a lot of fun (for me, at least!) and was pretty successful.

I tell you this for a reason. You'll see.

  1. I'm intrigued. I hope you plan to reveal your reason soon.

Was the Safari Guy published in the Daily Universe, the Daily Herald, or somewhere else? And how many strips ran ultimately?

  2. Here's how it worked. We provided five cartoons each week to the local papers, and they ran them as filler on an as-needed basis. It didn't run consistently, but it showed up sporadically in the Herald, the Universe and the Utah County edition of the Deseret News. I think I drew somewhere around 150 strips (which means I have about 50 or so left in my stockpile!).

  4. Well, it wasn't the only thing I did. And I did a lot of them off of business hours. But yes, it was cool to get paid for drawing cartoons -- it fell into the "other duties as assigned" category.
