Who are these guys anyway?

Just a reminder that May Fourth is coming!

Sketchbook: Which way?

It was easy back in King Benjamin’s days. There weren’t a lot of nearby temples to choose from!

Holistic training

Yes, as a missionary one needs to be prepared to teach and testify. One also needs to be prepared for outright rejection.

When in the service of your fellow beings...

One of the bonus parts of service that includes food is the part that involves quality control.

Those feet have done some trodding!

As a missionary in Korea, it was shoes off whenever you went into someone's home — which meant your socks had to be clean and in good shape. Despite repeating the on/off cycle several times a day, it was a great feeling to finally kick them off at the end of the day!

Proof

If you live in the United States, you should know that the deadline for getting your Real ID is fast approaching — it's only about a year away.

Real ID is a special endorsement you get on your driver license or ID that verifies you are who you say you are. It will be required for domestic air travel beginning in May 2025 (you can also use your passport). Your local DMV office will be happy to provide you with all the requirements needed to obtain a Real ID endorsement.

This has been a public service announcement. You may now resume your everyday life. Thank you.

Length x Width x Height

That’s one thing about Enos. Yeah, he prayed a long time, but what he prayed wasn’t just fill material. In my home ward as a kid there was a wonderful brother who could easily pray for fifteen to twenty minutes (and often did), but most of it was fluff.

When Enos prayed, his prayer had substance. It went “high that it reached the heavens.” That’s the kind of prayer to aspire to.

Sketchbook: In the mode

Had another experience of someone’s phone going off during the sacrament yesterday. There should be some sort of setting to prevent that.

He knows the way

I think it was so cool how they were able to find so many different ways to adapt during general conference. Members of the Twelve conducting, seats at the podium, video messages. There's always a way to be inclusive!

That’s how we show our love

The real treat comes when they ask to see our leaders. “How does ten hours of general conference sound to you?”

Of course if they listen to the messages it may save us from total annihilation!

The usual signs

As we approach general conference, I've been pondering what it means to sustain someone. My assumption is that we're all trying our best whatever our calling. Sometimes that "best" is going to look different, and it won't meet with everyone else's expectations.

When Jacob is teaching the Nephites in this week's Come, Follow Me, he says that he doesn't really want to preach the sermon that he's going to give — but the Lord commanded him to deliver this message. They might have expected to hear "the pleasing word of God," but got an entirely different talk about pride and chastity.

As we participate in general conference this weekend, let's sustain our leaders. Let's hear the messages the Lord wants us to receive. Listen with an open heart and open mind. You might just get the message that you need to hear!

Sketchbook: Making dates

I hope you had a wonderful Easter! Now we get to prepare for general conference!

When I was a full-time missionary, it wasn't unusual for folks to "commit" to something and then back out at the slightest reason. Whether these elders got pranked or not, I don't know. But I do remember one of my dad's favorite sayings for when people tried to get out of something: "When you're looking for an excuse, any excuse will do!"

Yes, this one stayed in the sketchbook because it's basically just sad!

Happy April Fool's Day — and let's be careful out there!
