Reasons to murmur

Latest research shows that this happened right around the time of the Broken Bow incident.

Sketchbook: What do the flowers say?

I kind of like the idea of Laman and Lemuel hanging out amongst the flowers.

I see

We had a week of snow days last week. We had to cancel dinner with the missionaries because the streets were too icy. We tried to get a pizza sent to them, but nobody would deliver! This week we’re looking at flooding. Locusts can’t be far behind!

At your disposal

To be fair, I think it happened more than once that R2 was referred to as some variation of a trash bin!

Wait for the sequel

It’s longer, has additional scenes and commentary. Totally makes sense to me.

I probably shouldn’t say this, but I briefly toyed with a “Taylor’s version” concept. That seemed so wrong on so many levels!

Sketchbook: Nearer to thee

For me it’s the little yipper dogs that can quickly turn my thoughts away from the celestial.

On the big screen

I always used to tell the Scouts (remember Scouting?) that the stars were like Greek TV. They'd look up into the sky and tell stories about what they saw.

Sitting around the campfire in the desert was probably a similar experience for Lehi’s family. But when your dad is a prophet, those stories take on a whole new level of meaning!

Another point of view

Mark Twain may have called the Book of Mormon "...chloroform in print," but that's nothing compared to Moby Dick.

Travel plans?

This is one of my favorites from four years ago. I’m having technical difficulties, so I may be doing reruns for a little while.

Sketchbook: Veggie tree

A white vegetable that is delicious above all other vegetables? Folks from Idaho would say that was a potato.

It was a dark and stormy night in the spring of 1820...

This begs so many questions! Is Woodstock his junior companion? Is there a special Beagle-speaking mission he was called to? What about that stupid cat next door?

It's fairly well-known that Schulz's daughter Amy is a member of the Church. Her mission inspired some of Linus' adventures as he shared his belief in the Great Pumpkin. And if Amy was a member, why not Snoopy?

Found 'em!

It's been a LONG time since I've done anything with Zarahemla Times. But as I've been pondering this first week's contents of our Come, Follow Me study, I keep thinking back to some of my old cartoons.

In 1 Nephi 5:22, it says that it's "...wisdom in the Lord that we should carry them (the scriptures) with us as we journeyed in the wilderness..." I don't know how it is in your family, but not too many years ago we were like these guys. Searching the scriptures meant trying to find them. Now we're able to carry a whole church library on our phones in our pockets. We carry them with us.

It seems significant to me that as Nephi is writing to our day that he would include that emphasis. Maybe it is important for us to carry them with us. Always.

1 Nephi 3:7

I drew this one several years ago — probably some multiple of four. It's been on my mind a lot recently, so I thought I would go ahead and run it again. It seems the right thing to do.

Sketchbook: Travel plans

One of those many cases where it’s easy to see why things stayed in the sketchbook.

Limited vision

It's been super foggy around here. It's like either something from a horror movie or something from Lehi's vision. Either way, I'd rather be in the light.

Super size me

Yes, I know there are folks who sell Book of Mormon action figures. But I have yet to see one come with my Happy Meal!

Cold contacts

We never tried this. I had a few companions who played collegiate baseball, so who knows? It may have worked.

Top Ten Countdown: The Top Ten for 2023 (part 2)

Welcome, and Happy New Year!

Here's the rest of 2023's Top Ten!

No. 5 — This one got a lot of views. Maybe it's one that many of us can relate to, especially during summer picnic season!

No. 4 — I'm not saying that sometimes Primary music leaders get carried away, but...

No. 3 — This is another one that a lot of people can relate to. Many missionaries are more excited to see their pets than to see their families!

No. 2 — This was one of my favorite cartoons to draw, it was one of my favorite gags of the year, and it fit in with Come, Follow Me. What more could one ask for?

No 1 — Have you ever served in Nursery?

That's it for 2023. Come back tomorrow as we start on a new year! Take care!
