Can I please get an amen? Please?

You know it's bad when even the speaker keeps falling asleep!

The field is white. And cold.

What's on your list today?

I decided this was an appropriate thought for Black Friday.

Make Thanksgiving work for you!

It occurs to me that the dividing line could really be that simplistic. Cultivate that attitude of gratitude!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving dinner up above

Yes, even upstairs things can go wrong with Thanksgiving dinner.

On a related note, the Korean restaurant down the street is advertising that it's open on Thanksgiving. Just in case!

Thanksgiving down below

I went through some of my old Good Heavens cartoons and found an interesting pattern: Thanksgiving dinner doesn't often go according to plan.

May your Thanksgiving dinner be better than theirs!

Monday Sketchbook: Singing for supper

I don't know how it is at your house, but we've got boys who are singing in excitement at the thought of Thanksgiving dinner!

Who's going bowling?

My son is running a half marathon on Thanksgiving, so we'll be watching a race instead of playing in a turkey bowl. That's probably safer for all of us!

...and that's why some families don't get along at the holidays!

Each family has its own holiday tradition. In some families that involves bugging the heck out of one's siblings.

CSI: Poultry Division

I apologize that this may be a little darker than my usual fare. I should never have TV on when I'm working on my cartoons!

The area book legacy

I know I would have appreciated something like that when I was a missionary!

Monday Sketchbook: Giving attitude

My neighbors already have their Christmas lights on, so it must be about time to start the Thanksgiving-themed cartoons, right?

Auf Deutsch

Imagine my surprise when I opened up my email and found a note from Bro. Thomas Mueller from Hamburg, Germany. He publishes a bulletin for his ward, and he wanted to let me know that he would like to use some of my cartoons* (and he wanted to ask permission, too).**

I had to look up this cartoon in the Zarahemla Times archive — neither my German nor my memory is good enough to remember what the original was. That's because my German teacher, Herr Goates, spent most of our time in the classroom telling stories from his mission and not a lot of time on grammar or vocabulary. It was a great class!

It's fun to see my cartoons translated into other languages. I've seen them in Spanish, Portuguese, French and, of course, Korean. It reminds me that the Church is a worldwide organization and the Gospel is for everyone. And if my little cartoons can help make us a little closer in some small way, well, that's what it's all about.

*And a lot of Arie Van De Graaff's as well!
**Which permission I usually grant for ward bulletins and stuff.

Remembrance Day

Happy Veterans' Day/Remembrance Day! Hats off to all those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. Thank you!

Oppa Pyongyang Style!

I think there are many missionaries who could tell you that there are all kinds of, um, interesting investigators.

The Great Red North

The Dear Leader of North Korea was "missing" for several weeks recently. He was absent for several important events, and hadn't been seen looking at things for a long time.

Reports from the South say that he underwent surgery. But Sis. Kerry Jo knows the truth. At least she will soon.

Monday Sketchbook: Finding Family

I just uploaded a few photos to familysearch.org, and while I was tagging the people in the pictures, I had this thought.
