Subtlety

Parents of teenage boys, am I right?

I take it in small bites

Thanks to faithful reader Bob for the idea.

I have no idea how the snake works the keyboard (and you don't want to know what happened to the mouse!).

Sketchbook: Memorial Day

Memorial Day seems like a good day to do family history work, doesn't it?

The Great Big Book of Everything

Memorial Day Weekend makes me think of family, particularly visiting the graves of our ancestors. I have great memories of walking through the cemetery and listening to my dad tell stories about the people who were buried there.

Savoir faire

A lot of other schools are already out for the summer; we're just getting started on finals!

Lookalikes

It always troubled me when people said I looked like one of my ancestors — mostly because I was young, and they were dead!

Ward family history

...and the Stake Relief Society President is that one crazy aunt on your mother's side that we never talk about!

Think twinkle

So a couple of my family members were talking about making a flier in Spanish at the same time I was studying the Plan of Salvation for my Sunday school class, and this happened.

Limited palate

There's nothing better as a missionary than having a companion who can cook!

One of the crowd

This really hit home for me when I had a picture taken with some of the members of our branch in Yeosu, South Korea. I was really shocked to see just how Anglo I looked surrounded by all those Koreans!

Angels above us are silent notes taking

I wonder what the results would be if every missionary companionship were issued a Go Pro and the interactions were live streamed? Something to think about...

Exploring some more

Just a couple more from Explore Provo.

If you're a comics nerd like me, you may be interested to note that these were originally drawn using ancient technology — Radiograph pens on Bristol board, and a lot of the shading is done with ziptone film. It's so much easier nowadays with Photoshop!

Working it

With May being Work Zone Safety Month (I know it's marked on your calendar, isn't it?), I thought it might be good to revisit some of my Explore Provo cartoons. These were done as public service announcements during a project to rebuild University Avenue in downtown Provo — a couple of decades ago!

Sketchbook: Preparing for the fast

Ours can't be the only LDS home like this. The kids feel a need to load up before fast Sunday so they don't suffer too much from skipping two meals. Then, when we get home, they feel the need to make up for the two meals they missed (even it they were Hobbit meals*)!

It would be an interesting study to compare caloric intake on fast Sunday compared to regular Sundays.

*Breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper.

Expiration date

We just finished prom season here, both Mormon prom and school prom. Even though both proms may look the same on paper, there's a world of difference between the two!

Revenge of the Fifth

Missionaries tend to carry a bit of their native culture with them wherever they go...

May The Fourth Be With You

Once again, we made these work zone safety memes for the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Contrariwise

I know this is a rerun, but it is almost Star Wars Day, and I really like this one!

Sketchbook: To be one

Just a warning: this is the week of May the Fourth (be with you). We'll see what comes from that!
