Cold, shiver and bronze

Our ward has a lot of hills. Sometimes our elders walk, sometimes they ride bikes. Oftentimes they ask for rides. But they love it on those rare occasions that they get to use a car! 
 

Watch your step

Doing service was consistently one of the most fun and rewarding activities as a missionary. Whether it was helping someone move or building a new chapel, it was good to be out helping others.
 

Harvest time is chill

Here in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, the field is wet.
 

But with joy

We often hear stories about the hardships and trials of the early pioneers. Yet most of the companies made it through without major incidents or setbacks. Almost all of them report about the singing and dancing that went on at the end of the day. Sure, it wasn’t easy. But it wasn’t always miserable either — they just don’t have the exciting stories!

 

A world of white

That technique of visualizing the people you work with dressed in white, for either baptism or going to the temple, can be a good technique. And yes, there are times when it's easier to imagine.

I see

We had a week of snow days last week. We had to cancel dinner with the missionaries because the streets were too icy. We tried to get a pizza sent to them, but nobody would deliver! This week we’re looking at flooding. Locusts can’t be far behind!

Should this have stayed in the sketchbook? Maybe.

The new semester just started in our local schools. It's possible I heard this line not from a student...but rather a member of the faculty or staff. Possibly.

The windows of heaven

Remember that Church video called The Windows of Heaven? A rainstorm came to end a drought once the Saints remembered the commandment to pay their tithing — the windows of heaven opened up to bless them with rain. 

As I was drawing this, it occurred to me that the prophet who delivered that message was Lorenzo Snow. I must have made that unconscious connecting when I wrote this gag.
 

It's not just frozen on

Almost all of my bishops have had a welcoming smile, no matter what the circumstances. With just a couple of exceptions. There was one bishop in Provo who was a little bit cranky, and there were a couple of them who played church ball.
