Most missionaries are focused on the work most of the time. That's where their treasure is. However, every now and then there's some sort of cultural event that can be just a little distracting. Like, perhaps, the new Star Wars movie that opens today!

Blessed are they that mourn

We all carry some sort of burden — death, illness, disappointment. The holiday season often makes it worse. Do something nice for someone today. We could all use a little more kindness.

I was a stranger and ye took me in

Pres. Hinckley said that every new member needs a friend, a job, and to be nourished in the good word of God. We often think of "strangers" as people outside of our circle. But often there are people sitting in the pew next to us who feel alone and isolated. Reach out to that someone, even if you're the one who is feeling alone.

Search the scriptures

One of my favorite General Conference addresses ever was Elder Richard G. Scott's "The Power of Scripture" from October 2011. In it he says that scriptures are like packets of light that can lighten our way.* "To memorize a scripture is to forge a new friendship," he said.

There's a lot we can learn from the scriptures. There are good examples, and as Santa knows, there are bad examples.

I was sick and ye visited me

It's interesting to notice how different people react to being sick. Some people just soldier on, others need care and attention throughout their illness. And sometimes you just need chicken soup!

Love your enemies

Just a few days ago our local missionaries asked us to make seven dozen cookies for their investigators. They tried making some, but it didn't turn out so well.
