The horror!

This may be the first cricket-based, Halloween-themed cartoon I've ever drawn. And I would guess the universe of cricket-based, Halloween-themed cartoons is very, very small.

For your convenience

That could have been handy.

Days of '48

Cartoonists often play the "What if...?" game, where you ask yourself what if (this thing) verbed (that thing)? For example, what if it snowed on fast Sunday? What if Brigham Young ordered flowers for Mothers' Day? What if things could get worse? You get the idea.

The other day I asked myself, what if seagulls did their version of a pioneer trek? What would they do? They probably wouldn't be pushing handcarts!

He can get the job, but can he do the job?

I had this idea about a seagull who didn't like crickets, so I played around with a few ideas. I wasn't sure which one I liked best, so I drew them both up. What do you think?

Food for thought

I really like this one — but halfway through drawing it, I wondered if it should have been the crickets talking?

Our menu options have changed

Someone suggested that I add a tiny editorial cricket in the corner that said something like, "Eat until you puke!" As you can see, I discarded that idea. Some people are still eating breakfast.

When life gives you crickets...

I struggled with deciding whether the contestants should be crickets or seagulls. Then it occurred to me that having both would certainly ratchet up the tension!

Family tales

We all have that one family member who tells the same stories all the time. I imagine it was no different among the seagull families in the 19th century!

Right place, wrong time

"And always let your conscience be your guide."

I wonder if anybody has ever quoted that in General Conference?

And now a brief message...

They come in swarms and eat everything in sight —

Which. Sounds. Like. Missionaries.

We're all pioneers

At this time of the year, many Mormons share stories of their ancestors, particularly those who came across the plains in wagons or by handcart. Well, they're not the only ones proud of their forebears!
