Moving time!

This happened to me right before Christmas. One of my least favorite transfers ever!

Thy days are numbered

As part of my research, I asked a few returned missionaries for ideas of what a companion could do that would bother them. There were a LOT of ideas shared! I dialed this one back a bit and made it toothpaste rather than toothbrush. Ew!

Called to the Lightning Lane

I had a son in California who served in Irvine, but that's as close as any of us got to a Disney property. But I think every mission has its fun areas, as well as those places nobody wants to go.

And you can gain a year of eligibility!

Ever since the NCAA came up with their scheme to allow athletes to shop schools — and schools to shop athletes — I've been thinking that there's some sort of cartoon in there. It all came together the other day when I saw a rerun of Stargate.

Laundry day

Our area is being pinkwashed: the elders are being transferred out, and sisters are coming in.

I hope they separate their laundry.

A whole new world

As a missionary, I was in my first area for five months — a place in the northeast corner of the mission. My first transfer took me to the opposite corner of the mission. It really did seem like a completely different planet!

On a side note, I wonder if that's how it works in the Star Trek mission?

Sketchbook: The headless companion

It's transfer time for our local missionaries. They found out that they're both staying, but they were a little worried. Although the calls are inspired, you never know what you're going to get!

ET

While rare, emergency transfers can be rough on everyone. An emergency transfer usually occurs when a missionary has to go home for some reason. For example, an elder in my district had to return home for three weeks because his mother was sick (it was complicated). His companion was ET-ed to my companionship, and we were in a trio for (a very long) three weeks!

Mirror, mirror*

That's roughly nine months, or about half of a sister mission. Or approximately how long my companion wore his lucky baptism socks. That's another story for another day.

*Apologies if this headline led you to expect a Classic Star Trek reference!

Total recall

The missionaries came over last night to tell us that one of them just received a special transfer: he's headed to another mission. But before he goes to the new mission, he has to report to the MTC for "additional training." Hmm.
