The summer movie season officially begins Memorial Day weekend in the United States. The Devil Wears Prada 2 was one of the first out of the gate. That got me to wondering what it would be like if Miranda Priestly met with the missionaries? 
 

No treat for you!

Happy Halloween — the one day each year when even the missionaries won't get run off if they knock on your door in the evening.

Except our missionaries have to be in their apartment by 6.
 

But when it was bad

Every area on my mission had that one place you could get cheap food that was usually really good. From time to time the quality would be questionable, but it was often worth the risk.
 

Thy days are numbered

As part of my research, I asked a few returned missionaries for ideas of what a companion could do that would bother them. There were a LOT of ideas shared! I dialed this one back a bit and made it toothpaste rather than toothbrush. Ew!
 

That bugs me

As a missionary, the only thing worse than breaking the zipper on your pants was busting the seams. That was horror!
 

Sketchbook: We're going to need a bigger font

While I was drawing this, the theme from Jaws was playing on the radio. I wonder if there's any correlation?

What's in your box?

Bird Box was a movie that became famous because of two things: Tik Tok and Netflix —it was something to watch when nothing else was on. The premise of the movie is if you see the "monster" (which takes the form of your worst fears) then you will die. That led to a Tik Tok trend of Bird Box stunts, such as driving while blindfolded. Most of them had disastrous results.

That leads to the second, undeveloped take on this cartoon idea. At Thanksgiving time, the Bird Box is more likely to be the freezer. And if you don't thaw your bird on time, it could lead to disastrous results.

Turkeys aren't usually known for their glorious flying skills. But what if there was a turkey who pushed beyond his limitations?

I don’t mind a certain amount of trouble

There are a lot of Halloween movies. There are a lot of Christmas movies. But just how many Thanksgiving movies are there?

We’ve come up with few suggestions that could become classics. Unless they wind up turkeys.  
 

We now return to our irregular programming

From what I hear, if either the Democrats or the Republicans win, the world is coming to an end. Unless the independents win, then we're in big trouble.
 

Scary movies

I'm not sure what he was expecting them watch. Most of the movies I saw as a missionary had to do with the First Vision. That and Meet the Mormons.*

*That was in a time before the re-emphasis on the proper name of the Church.

Just how trunky can one feel when one's hands are full of pumpkin innards?
 

They're watching...but not listening

I've heard more than one missionary complain about the number of home security systems they encountered — even when visiting members!
 

Winged terror

Sometimes missionaries share their apartments with scary things. Besides their companions.
 

It creeps, and leaps, and glides and slides across the floor

Our ward had its annual Chili Cook Off last week*. I'm always astonished at the wide variety of chilis that come in — hot, sweet, bland — and there's a wide variety of textures as well. No two are the same.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of them took on a life of their own. And started creeping, leaping and sliding across the floor.

*And, appropriately, Bro. Bean said the opening prayer.
