Good night

I have to admit that I struggled with this one. There are so many possible "three" things in the Church! Three Nephites, Three Witnesses and even Pres. Uchdorf's three sisters!

I finally decided on three missionaries. If you ever served in a trio, you know how uncomfortable that can be!

Maybe I spent too much time as a youth listening to the soundtracks of My Turn on Earth and Saturday's Warrior at full volume. But whatever the reason, my hearing isn't exactly what it used to be. So when the missionaries challenged us to share the gospel, as Pres. Uchtdorf says, "in normal and natural ways" somehow I heard it as "normal unnatural ways!"

I tried to save this idea for October, but I couldn't wait. Naturally.
 

A tailored message

Perhaps one of the best quotes of the modern dispensation is Elder Uchtdorf saying, “I am pretty sure that church sleep is among the healthiest of all sleeps.”

I'm pretty sure the April 2017 talk from Elder Uchtdorf is one of the most quoted address by a general authority in recent history.

I struggled a bit with the caption on this one — can I call them Mormon kids? But then I figured that's what they're called at our high school, so I went with it. I figure we all know who they're talking about.

This is the second time that fellow Mormon Cartoonist Arie Van De Graaff and I have had similar ideas for General Conference cartoons. It happened last October as well, when he ran this one and I ran this one, both with a ComicCon theme.

Erasure

Pres. Uchtdorf said: "We must recognize that we are all imperfect -- that we are beggars before God. "Haven't we all, at one time or another, meekly approached the mercy seat and pleaded for grace Haven't we wished with all the energy of our souls for mercy -- to be forgiven for the mistakes we have made and the sins we have committed?"

Stop it.

There's a Mormon Message that's making the rounds on social media. It's based on Pres. Uchtodorf's message of "Stop it!"

As I watched the video, I was reminded of a series I did in Zarahemla Times a couple of years ago that's about the same subject. I felt impressed that I should run the series here as well.

In the video, the kid who is doing the harassment in school is later shown at a church service project, where he behaves like an angel. His justification for his meanness was that it was funny -- to him. But to the one on the receiving end, it was very hurtful. If you haven't yet seen the video, I highly recommend that you watch it.

It's often a fine line between the two. I do my best to steer clear of hurtful humor in my cartoons, but still there are those who find offense. My goal is to have humor that is uplifting; I think that my cartoons are one way to share my testimony of the gospel and of Jesus Christ.

For the next few days I'll be running this series. It's meaningful to me. I hope you join me for the ride.

Post-Conference rehash

Pres. Uchtdorf's talk in Priesthood was different from what he usually talks about. He did such a great job of delivering the "can't get up" line, though. That alone makes the talk worth listening to!
