Up, up in the sky!

As I read my scriptures for Come, Follow Me the other day, I noticed something. Pres. Monson told us to "Look up." Pres. Nelson told us to "Think celestial." And God told Abraham to "Look now toward heaven."

I have a feeling there may be a not-so-hidden message in there somewhere!

Sketchbook: Sweet and sour

For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it's been a roller coaster these past few days. Looking forward to General Conference, BYU winning a tight match against Colorado in a great game, the passing of Pres. Nelson, and then the horrific mass shooting and subsequent fire at the meetinghouse in Michigan — all against the background of studying D&C 107 and 109 in Come, Follow Me and again looking forward to General Conference!

Many of us, I'm sure, have spent a lot of time on our knees over the past day or two — with more to come!

I find comfort in one of Pres. Nelson's recent messages: "The best is yet to come, my brothers and sisters, because the Savior is coming again. The best is yet to come as we fully turn our hearts and our lives to Jesus Christ."

Let's pray for our brothers and sisters; let us pray for ourselves, our families and our neighbors. Let us pray for the members and helpers in Michigan. And then let us work to make those prayers come to pass!

In memoriam

I was saddened to hear of Pres. Nelson’s passing — so soon after his birthday, right before general conference, and before the outcome of the BYU game was decided. He always showed a sense of humor and had a twinkle in his eye, so I thought it would be appropriate to pull a few of my cartoons that are based on Pres. Nelson and his talks.

Here they are in no particular order. He was a wonderful man, a great inspiration, and a perfect witness for Christ. The last is pulled from my conference notes last October.

Check your identity

On the other hand, a cherubim with a flaming sword could be a pretty cool costume for Halloween.

#GiveThanks

If you haven't listened to Pres. Nelson's message yet, stop what you're doing and go listen. It's only 12 minutes long, but there's a lot in those 12 minutes.

Follow the prophet. Really.

If y'all know Sis. Kerry Jo, you know she couldn't just sit quietly and let this pass. Everyone deserves respect — some people just don't know it yet!

Oh, how lovely was the back yard

It's been about five and-a-half months since Pres. Nelson invited us to review the Restoration and the First Vision. How are you doing with that?

Sketchbook: Vitamin fortified

I think the actual quote was, "Eat your vitamin pills. Get some rest. It's going to be exciting!"

I don't know about you, but I've started taking my vitamins!

Schooled by the prophet

Being the prophet must be easier than being a junior in high school, I guess...

NOTE: I've had a couple of people tell me that they're having trouble posting ideas for the caption contest! If that's you, click on the email link on my bio, and I'll see if I can figure out the posting problem. Thanks! Keep those suggestions coming!

Vitamins? Check!

There are a TON of rumors floating around about what could possibly be  announced at this conference. I won't even begin to speculate!

Except for one thing. If you notice, Pres. Nelson asked the youth to fast from social media for a week. He asked the Relief Society to fast from social media for ten days. What's he going to ask the priesthood to do?

It's like a piece of me

This reminds me of an old Fox Trot cartoon where Jason wanted to take a more realistic approach to his valentines. He cut up little pieces of meat that he glued to his cards and said, "Here's a piece of my heart for Valentine's Day."

I suggest we stick with tradition.

Fast times

I keep seeing posts that say, "I'm on a social media fast." And I wonder how could they be posting when they're fasting? Isn't that kind of like saying, "I'm going to start fasting as soon as I finish this bowl of cereal!"? It's probably just me...

Did you also notice that Pres. Nelson challenged the youth to a seven-day fast. He challenged the sisters to a ten-day fast. What's it going to be up to when he finally challenges the elders?

Sketchbook: Following the prophet (if it's not too hard)

This was from my sketchbook as I thought about Pres. Nelson's schedule over the past six months. He was up here in the Pacific Northwest just this last weekend. It's about three more weeks until General Conference — that gives him plenty of time to visit a number of other places in the meantime!
