Countdown: Top Sketchbooks of 2011

This year I'm adding something new to the year end countdown: the Sketchbook. Some of the sketchbook 'toons have garnered the most attention this year. Here are some of the greatest hits. My General Conference recap was by far the most popular sketchbook topic.

Now the rest, in ascending order.

It must have been a challenge to go to church on Super Sunday in Green Bay.

This was more topical, dealing with policy changes in the U.S. military.

Although this one is a little creepy, it's personally one of my favorites. 

Then we get to the back back story of 007. 

And who can forget BYU's run in the Big Dance? They only missed out on the Final Four because it conflicted with General Conference.

What's in a name?

I have a friend who is a BYU fan in a big way -- not to the point of being pathological, but extreme nonetheless. He and his wife just had a little baby boy. Although he was sorely tempted, he knew better than to try suggesting this name to a woman who had just given birth.

Monday sketchbook: Change of seasons

I thought I was done with Jimmer for a while. I guess I was wrong.

A lot of casual fans get their sports mixed up. It's easy to do. It doesn't help that the two big stars in the two big sports at BYU both have names that start with the letter J: Jake and Jimmer. And they've both got range.

One last shot for Jimmer

It struck me the other day, when reading about Jimmer Fredette's awards, that although "jimmer" is being used as a verb in English, it ought to translate into other languages as well, n'est-ce pas?

I think the real reason BYU didn't make it to the Final Four is because of the conflict with General Conference. I'm just sayin'.

Monday sketchbook: Sweet 16

For our Family Home Evening we had a discussion about prayer. One of the important aspects of a prayer, we said, was to express gratitude for things we are thankful for. I, of course, thought of Saturday afternoon's game vs. Gonzaga.
