This ran in last week's Meridian Magazine. There was a little snafu this week, and they ran one of Arie's cartoons instead of mine -- but it was probably funnier anyway!

Gone fishing

This spot for rent
My buddy Gary over at newsphotography: exposed asked me to draw a cartoon for him to use on his blog. Each year he does a summer project. This year he traveled through South Dakota on his way home to Wisconsin (Go, Pack Go!). Somewhere in the hinterlands of South Dakota is Wall Drug, a landmark destination that has more than 165 signs in either direction advertising its location. His assignment: photograph the signs. So, for Gary, here's his cartoon. Check out the signs at newsphotography: exposed!

More Wood!
I'm starting to get suspicious. Every time I clean the garage, I find more of my old cartoons and stuff. I think my wife has a secret supply that she puts out every time she asks me to clean up! This is another of the Evelyn Wood ads. This one only ran in the BYU paper, The Daily Universe. They always say to match your message to your audience!
I'm starting my Countdown to Thanksgiving; I want to acknowledge folks in the bloggerverse who have inspired me or encouraged me -- or both!I need to first tip my hat to Newsphotography:Exposed, the site that is run by my buddy, Gary Weber. Each month he covers some aspect of photography from a news photographer’s point of view. He offers tips, resources and many great examples of his work. His blog is one of the reasons I decided to go ahead and post my cartoons online. And he’s included a few of them in his blog, too. Check out his site. I think you'll be glad you did.

Eternity defined
Gary sent me a note to let me know that this is "free fishing weekend" in Oregon. He was surprised at my lack of enthusiasm.

Special GW doubleheader!
So my friend Gary Weber (of newsphotographyexposed fame) asked if I could draw a cartoon for him to use on his blog. His blog entry this month is about covering the elections as a photojournalist, so I drew this one of what happened when he covered Mondale's announcement of Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. What Gary didn't know...

...is that I was planning to use this other cartoon anyway. This was from when Gary was working on his Master of Arts in Teaching and wanted to observe my kids for one of his homework assignments. I thought Mr. Claus might also be a good person for him to observe. Anyone who has worked on a MAT knows exactly what I mean!

Fishy
This one just kinda makes me smile. Maybe it's the chairs.
In an odd way, it reminds me a bit of my bud Gary, the photographer. He's a beyond-avid fisherman...he even has the book Max the Minnow hanging off his monitor at work. He also has an awesome photography blog that's worth visiting.
