Halloween Movies for Missionaries: Who's that girl?

In one area where I served, we had a gallery of wedding announcements filled with girls who didn't wait. We occasionally used it as a dartboard.

I doooo

This caused a bit of discussion around the dinner table. Would "holy matrimony" be wrong to use? What about "unholy matrimony"? In the end, I chose just plain ol' matrimony.

There must be something in the air

As I said yesterday, I found a few old cartoons as I was cleaning up. Why was I cleaning up? Because my son was getting married! So I find it a little ironic that this was one of the cartoons I found.

What adds more to the weirdness is that it was only half done. It was mostly penciled in and only partially inked...from about 20 years ago! It was like visiting a ghost from the past to bring it to a finished state.

So here's another level of weird: my niece who is a model was on TV today...showing off wedding gowns! Yes, this is the same niece who was a zombie! She's very versatile!

Bells are ringing!

I know a lovely young couple getting married today. This is for them, may they live long and prosper!

Monday sketchbook: Spell check!

June is the month of weddings, so I was doodling with some ideas about that. This is one that popped out, but I think it's probably safer to just leave this one in the sketchbook.

And why are they not chosen?

In one of our missionary apartments we had a big poster collage of the wedding announcements that the elders in the district received. We didn't throw darts at it, but whoever added to it had to buy ice cream for the district that day.

Who can find a virtuous woman?

As per tradition, every July 13 we bring you a snippet of the story of Ruth. This year we see the wedding of Ruth and Boaz.

See, it's my mother-in-law's birthday, and her story is similar to that of Ruth. And just a couple of weeks ago she attended her son's wedding...which just happened to be in Alexandria, Egypt, complete with belly dancers, camels and Bedouins stealing the wedding cake (really!).

So happy birthday, mummy dearest!

Wedding bells and whistles

Today is the wedding day for my brother-in-law! I seriously doubt he's getting any sporting equipment, either.

Welcome to June

Ahh, June! I like this cartoon because it's based on reality. The store owners who saw the construction as an opportunity did really well. Once Subway fed the crews once, guess where the crews went to lunch? I didn't see any samples being handed out at the bridal shop, however. It was probably just as well.

Monday skechbook: Chip shot

A week or so ago we went up to Wenatchee for an outdoor wedding. The setting sort of reminded me of being on a golf course, so I started to provide play-by-play in those hushed tones that golf announcers use. It earned me an elbow in the ribs, but I liked the idea!

In 140 or less

The sequel to yesterday's cartoon.

Why no Fathers Day cartoon? To paraphrase Spock in the latest Star Trek movie, it would seem oddly self-serving.

Happy Fathers Day to all!

Status report

June is the month of weddings, and having just gone through one recently, I understand the importance of incorporating modern technology into the traditional.
