Peanut gallery

I've only seen actual heckling happen to a speaker one time, although I've seen plenty of pulling funny faces from the congregation.

Just a few minutes of your time

That's when you hope that you teach by the spirit, not by the missionary!

This bugs me

Actually, teaching mosquitoes might be futile. Very few of them ever make it to eight years old, nor are they repentant.

Sketchbook: How hot is it?

For some of my kids it may never get that hot. I just tell them, “Let it go!”

Historical accuracy

Yes, we played The Oregon Trail in our household. Why do you ask?

It was a bit of a paradigm shift moving from Utah to Oregon. The biggest threat to pioneers moving west went from being terrorized by angry, violent mobs to developing gastroenterological issues.

Scrubbed

Have you noticed that a lot of events at church have their own, unique smell? FOr example, the Chili Cook-Off is distinctly different from the ward Christmas party. The Relief Society room smells different from the Primary room.

Pioneer trek has a scent that's all its own!

Happy Pioneer Day!

Learn from the classics

What I think is funny is that in the universe of available topics in LDS humor, twice this month there have independently been new gags based on the story of Hansel and Gretel.

I'm sure in the grand scheme of things there's a deep meaning behind it. But then again, maybe not.

Guests

Sometimes the problem with being in the great outdoors is that there's too much nature involved.

Sketchbook: Along for the ride

There may have been a bit of an influence from Calvin and Hobbes for this one.

King me

My father-in-law used to make the grandkids play checkers with him — and he would show no mercy. I'm sure his intent was to help them develop a love of the game, but I think perhaps it had the opposite effect.

Some must push; some must pull

It's summertime and time for pioneer trek reenactments! There are always so many interesting variations and good ways to learn about your ancestors and yourself.

Three degrees of laundry

I heard from someone who worked in the laundry room at the temple that they add a whitener when they wash the clothes to help them look clean and bright. That's something I sure could have used toward the end of my mission!

His eye is on the sparrow. And on your bike.

Our local elders just went from having a car to riding bikes. Elder Minson, bless his heart, said that at least they don't have to deal with Tiwi.

Nor do they have to deal with bikes any more. Someone stole their tires.

All too well

If I had a better Reputation as a Swiftie, I would Speak Now with some sort of Fearless pun. Yeah, I know I Need to Calm Down, but that's what happens when you give me a Blank Space!

Sketchbook: Technical difficulties

Have you ever been in a meeting where something goes wrong, like the microphone doesn’t work or the power goes out? We can adapt, but sometimes it makes for an interesting meeting.

Apples to apples

Korea is a peninsula with an abundance of beautiful beaches. The only time I ever got to go in the water as a missionary was when we were doing baptisms. Not quite the same as swimming, but it was a memorable experience nonetheless.

But they are Valiant

Our Primary class was less than half of its normal size this week thanks to summer and the upcoming holiday. There's another ward in our stake that doubles in attendance during the summer months. It's on the coast. Is that a surprise?
