They're keepers

Yes, I know that moms serve in other places — I would never dare disrespect the Young Womens program! — and I know there are women who are not mothers who are in Relief Society. I'm taking literary (or is it ecclesiastical?) license for the sake of a joke.

Thank you.

Celebrating the call

Some days it's good to remember your blessings.

The Wish List

As you can imagine, there was an entire continuum of things I thought a Relief Society president would ask Santa for. I'm sure this represents just a tip of the iceberg!

Lines of authority

To tell the truth, I think most bishops would prefer to get a phone call like that over some of the messages they get. Besides that, any good Relief Society president would make sure you ate your vegetables. Oh, there would still be dessert, but you’d have to down the veggies first!

Cold in here

It's usually a good idea to dress in layers if you're going to be in the Relief Society room!

Sketchbook Special Edition: General Women's Session

What a contrast to what's been in the headlines lately! Love one another, serve one another, do good — what if we could get the whole world to try some of those things?

The General Women's Session was awesome! The videos were a nice way to introduce I Was A Stranger. What a way to serve one-on-one and have it make a difference!

The music was awesome, the talks were amazing — certainly worth reading or watching (even if you're a priesthood holder!). I can't wait for the rest of conference!

By the way, if you have little ones (or even bigger ones) you need to keep engaged during general conference, be sure to print out copies of the Mormon Cartoonist's Conference Activity Packet — they're highly recommended!

Monday Sketchbook: First Principles

I think this is listed on the first page of the Handbook. If it isn't, it should be!

Special Sunday doubleheader

Yesterday was the annual meeting of the women's organization of the LDS Church, the General Relief Society Meeting. To commemorate the event, I published a special cartoon over on Zarahemla Times, and I thought I'd also share it here.

We now return to our regularly scheduled cartoon, a continuation of the story of why Jack in Good Heavens is so attached to his TV despite all the negative political programming.

Thank you for your indulgence.

Challenges of a new calling

Our ward just went through a major overhaul in Primary and Relief Society, with several sisters switching organizations. It's sometimes a struggle to adapt to a new calling.

Like unto...them?

I've seen the occasional handout and visual aid used in a priesthood lesson, but I don't think I've ever seen a lesson in Relief Society that didn't involve at least an easel, a picture and some sort of table covering -- usually much more!
