A good friend of mine recently passed away. This cartoon was inspired by one of her experiences as a missionary. 

Becoming clean

The real question is, do you believe in miracles?
 

Close, and yet...not

It's easy to understand how some practices came into being. It's almost like the real thing! Kind of like the copycat recipes for J.Dawgs sauce.
 

Courage!

It does take a special kind of courage to enter into the waters of baptism!
 

Accommodations

We had a couple of baptisms that we did in the ocean, but it was close to shore. 
 

Apples to apples

Korea is a peninsula with an abundance of beautiful beaches. The only time I ever got to go in the water as a missionary was when we were doing baptisms. Not quite the same as swimming, but it was a memorable experience nonetheless.
 

Sketchbook: We're going to need a bigger font

While I was drawing this, the theme from Jaws was playing on the radio. I wonder if there's any correlation?
 

Building up a teaching pool

I started this by imagining what would happen if you tried to baptize a snowman. As his sins washed away, wouldn’t he? Would he make the water in the font too cold? Although in my experience, that seems to be less of an issue. 
 

Sketchbook: Side benefits

When I was little, I envied the kids who got baptized in December. They didn’t have nearly as much stuff to repent of to ensure a spot on the Nice list!
 

Object lessons

After all, what missionary doesn't want to see his friends in the water?
 

Sketchbook: Accommodations

I suppose there could be some correlation between entering the waters of baptism and walking the plank. Both involve being immersed in water and a change in lifestyle. But baptism is a choice. Walking the plank, generally speaking, is not.

And that's why this stayed in the sketchbook!

In to the water

Sometimes a gag just seems so obvious it's a wonder that I haven't seen it before! My question is, will she need to find a white fin?
 

Heat check

The coldest baptism I remember was one we did in the mountains on the west side of South Korea in February . Yes, there was snow involved. 

The second coldest was a baptism in the Granger Stake (the west side of the Salt Lake Valley). The stake center was notorious for not having any hot water. 
 

The bright side

There have been odder places for baptisms, that’s for sure!
 

Starting out small

This is a rerun, but for a good reason. We have a special baptism coming up this weekend! And he’s the opposite of this — if there were a high dive into the font, he’d use it!
 

A little deeper

This was in my sketchbook, and my plan was to leave it there. But it kept nudging me, and making me think. 

When I was eight, I was pretty sure I understood what baptism was. Then as a missionary, I learned more and understood more, and saw the change it made in people’s lives. 

Now I’m a little bit older, and I’m learning more and understanding more about this important ordinance. I better understand where Nicodemus was coming from. Like so many things in the gospel, there are layers and levels of meaning. 
 

Well, that's deep

I know it's all a matter of perspective, but the font sure seemed a lot bigger when I was baptized as a kid — and deeper, too!
 

What if? Saturday night's all right

Remember all those folks from the teaching pool on Monday? Well, they're ready to be baptized!
 

Open lines of communication

When I was a missionary it took days or weeks before my family knew that I had a baptism. Nowadays families can join in on a live stream. That's cool!
 

Sketchbook: It's all wet

There's a good joke in here somewhere, but I just haven't found it. Too distracted by the bad jokes in the sketchbook, I guess.
