We've got the spirit, yes we do!

There are times when I think it would be awesome to have spirit days in church like they do in school: pajama day, twin day, crazy hair day. Then there are times when I realize how irreverent and disrespectful that would be (at least for Sunday worship services).  

There's a reason why I'm not in charge of things. Could be fun, though.

Sketchbook: Sunday is a special day

Our priesthood discussion yesterday was based on Elder Holland's talk from April's general conference. We got off on a little side trail while we considered what role the adversary may have in disrupting our preparations for attending church. Which, of course, led to this.

I have a hard enough time trying to remember which is fast Sunday, let alone knowing what's going on for the third Sunday!

It's going to take some time this time

I know a lot of people are really looking forward to the new two-hour block of meetings on Sunday. I'm one of those who will probably feel guilty enough to want to linger longer because it will be too early to go home!

What I wonder is, how in the world are we going to work in the Sunday post-game recap after sacrament meeting if we only have two hours? I'll have to bring that up in ward council.

Eagles? Patriots? Go, either team!

I hate to say it, but I'm almost leaning toward the Patriots. That's only because they have one of my favorite former BYU players, Kyle Van Noy — the subject of one of my first memes!

It is lawful to do well on the sabbath days

Remember back in the old days when keeping the Sabbath day holy meant a big list of things you couldn't do? I like the approach that we use nowadays, with a focus on filling the day with doing good things.

And on the seventh day...

For it is written, "snooze ye this day."

I know what some of you plan on doing today!

I think we purposely have stake conference on Super Sunday so that the afternoon and evening are free from extra meetings. It's just a theory.

It's all in the timing

I lived in Helaman Halls my freshman year at BYU. There was a 7-11 store right across the street from our apartment. We'd often see a crowd of people heading over there just after midnight on most Sunday evenings. I guess that's when the sabbath day officially ended!

Monday Sketchbook: Good idea, bad idea

There's a lot of focus on Sabbath Day observance. Sounds like it's time to raise the bar!
