We had a couple of baptisms that we did in the ocean, but it was close to shore.

Lessons learned
Editor's note: I've got a couple of old pirate-themed sketchbook gags that I'm turning in to full cartoons.
As a missionary, it's great when your investigator actually reads the scriptures. You just hope they're inspired bi the right parts!

Real pirates
Some messages at the park are subliminal — the scents, the invisible paint, the forced perspective. Others are a bit more blatant.

Sketchbook: Accommodations
I suppose there could be some correlation between entering the waters of baptism and walking the plank. Both involve being immersed in water and a change in lifestyle. But baptism is a choice. Walking the plank, generally speaking, is not.
And that's why this stayed in the sketchbook!

Keep an eye out for him
OK, I have to say I enjoyed drawing this one. You can see I had some indecision on what the pirate symbol should be: a wishbone or a turkey skull?
I'm also kind of proud of the parrot on his shoulder. It made more sense than a monkey!

Sketchbook: This gag could be rated arrgh
I asked myself what would happen if missionaries were to give a pirate a copy of the Book of Mormon? Surely there would be something in it that would appeal to him — and then it hit me...
By the way, General Conference is coming up soon! If you want a nifty handout to share with your class or use for a pre-conference family night, you can't beat Arie Van De Graaff's General Conference Activity Packet, available now!

Sneak preview of yet another public service announcement
Avast! Monday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so we at the Oregon DOT thought it would be a good idea to hijack the news with a few more public service announcements. Watch for their official release on our ODOT social media accounts on Monday.

When there's Arrggh at Home
So here's the deal.
Today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. I also learned that there is a consortium of LDS bloggers who have named this Proclamation on the Family Week.
So I figured I ought to combine both!
Here's the little tag for the Proclamation on the Family Week. I picked it up from my friend and fellow blogger, Just Me, the Mom.
And, with that, I think I've just exceeded the total number of links ever included in any of my posts! Whatever you do today, celebrate something!

Monday Sketchbook: TLAP in Primary
Yes, I know it's tasteless. That's why it stayed in the sketchbook. But I thought I could drag it out to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Celebrate!

Ahoy! Avast!
When I drew this, I was thinking that there are probably many Sunday school teachers who would like to do this, yet somehow restrain themselves. As I looked at it again, I realized that it may not be limited to Sunday school -- high school, middle school, elementary teachers. Heck, probably anyone who has taught something and given a reading assignment!

Avast!
This actually reminds me of a place in Busan that we would go to on special occasions*, the Fisherman's Club. It was this hangout down by the waterfront that had pretty good burgers and decent pizza. Its customers were mostly crews from the ships in port, and included people from all over the world. Like 'most everyplace else we went, we as missionaries really stood out from the crowd. I could almost imagine something like this happening.*Special occasions were defined as a birthday, a mission milestone, or anytime a zone leader or pone boo staff member had a hankerin' for a burger.
