Sketchbook: One Sunday in Middle Earth

This was a lot of work for very little joke.

Sketchbook: It’s all in the pronunciation

Candles. Wicks. Wick. Ed.

Frans of Keanu Reeves’ character John Wick have run into the same problem.

There’s a reason why some of these stay in the sketchbook!

Leader of the pack

Yes, it’s a variation of a very old joke. One that I’m sure has been around since the days of Joseph Smith.

What this really is is an excuse to draw a bunch of dogs.

The ol' family tree

Sometimes family history is full of surprises. Other times, not so much.

Sketchbook: It's all wet

There's a good joke in here somewhere, but I just haven't found it. Too distracted by the bad jokes in the sketchbook, I guess.

Sketchbook: It never bothered me anyway

Welcome to the new year!

There are times when I wish I would have thought of an idea sooner, and this is one of those instances. Especially since  Bill Amend in Fox Trot had a similar punchline in his cartoon yesterday. When I saw that, I knew this would have to stay in the sketchbook.

I find it interesting how often cartoonists come up with similar ideas that run on the same day. It happens all the time in the comics pages.

What's worse is when I think of a hilarious LDS-themed gag, then as I research it I discover that the reason I think it's so funny is that Arie Van De Graaff or someone else did the exact joke years ago!

Anyway, here's to a new year! Let's make it a great one!

Who's that knocking at my door?

I know the greenie joke has been done to death, but I don't think I've ever seen it done with an alien. Incredible Hulk? Check! Sick missionary? Check! Leprechaun? Check! Alien..?

On a side note, I've been informed that using context clues, this joke may not work. The picture on the wall is of the Paris Temple. In France, new missionaries are called blue rather than green.

Sketchbook: And not a good one at that

You've probably heard the joke, "What do you call an alligator wearing a vest? An in-vest-i-gator." And then nobody laughs.

Personally, I've never heard of anyone trying to teach an alligator anything!

Busted!

I think we're about ready for a few zombie-themed cartoons, don't you?

Laugh or cry?

A couple of my favorite church-related puns. I can't be the only one who thinks of the Flintstones rather than Peter, James and John when they refer to the primitive church!

Return flight

OK, don't yell at me — I know this is a rerun and from the sketchbook. However, I'm bringing it back this St. Patrick's Day Eve by special request.
