Sketchbook: We’ve all been there

 

But it’s got to have whipped cream.

Especially when it comes to pumpkin pie, I certainly don't want to escape whipping — cream, that is!
 

A change of seasonings

I don't know why it amuses me to give turkeys names like Barry or Shirley. There's more to them than just Jenny or Tom.

From the Gee Whiz File: Barry Arnold was my best friend back in elementary school. We used to ride our bikes to 7-11 to buy candy, then go throw stuff in the canal to see if it would float. Good times!

Gee Whiz, Part 3: A quick survey shows that other names I’ve used for turkeys include Bert, Bobby, Tommy, Tom, Ralph, Lenny, Maurice, Walter, Frank, Arnold, Roger, Ben, George and Marty. I’m not sure what to do with that knowledge.

It's the missionaries, Charlie Brown!

One of my favorite things about the Great Pumpkin is that it was in part inspired by missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Charles Schulz's daughter Amy joined the Church and served as a missionary. He created several strips in which Linus' experiences going door to door parallel those of his daughter. 

And that's what the Great Pumpkin is all about, Charlie Brown!

I had a friend who rhapsodized about the smells of September: freshly-sharpened pencils, new textbooks and the fresh-cut grass of a football field. I kinda like the smell of November.

I'm running this a couple of days before Halloween as a public service announcement. You know how you never know what to do with your old pumpkins once Halloween is over?
